Personality Analysis

The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the dispositional theory

and the learning theory. It will also describe the role of personality in affecting

situational behavior. The next thing it will do is examine the personality characteristics

attributed to dispositional theory and the learning theory. Finally, it will explain the

interpersonal relational aspects associated with the dispositional and learning theories.

Compare and Contrast Dispositional and Learning theories


Methods in which scientist could acquire an understanding of how human behavioral

development progressed has been sought after by behavioral scientists for years. Some

scientists thought that looking only at group and general behaviors and ignoring individual

behavior is wrong when looking at the individuality of people (Feist & Feist, 2009). Gordon

Allport thought individuals were unique and led the way for scientists to study this

uniqueness (Feist & Feist, 2009). Allport’s dispositional theory thought that individuals

might display like characteristics, but that they display differences in the same trait because

no two individuals are alike (Feist & Feist, 2009). According to Barenbaum (1997), he also

believed that by examining what an individual wrote in his or her journal, letters, or dairies

might provide a view of how unique each individual is.


Individuality means that every individual is distinct, unique, and unlike the any other

individual; distinctness describe each individual’s personality, unique refers to each persons

thought process, and each individual has his or her own belief system. The social cognitive

theory of Albert Bandura examined how each individual is a singular moral agent with the

capability of influencing his or her own lives within the concepts of the social systems (Bandura,
