Calibrating thermometer - ICE

Equipment:
● Ice
● Alcohol thermometer
● Digital thermometer
● 250cm3 Beaker
● Glass rod

Alcohol thermometer
Method:
For this practical I started to put crushed ice into the beaker and we added some tap water.
Then I place the alcohol thermometer inside the beaker and I wait for 30 seconds. I
appreciate how the line inside the alcohol thermometer goes down. The reading was 0.0
celsius.
We did another reading that followed the same method as mentioned before and we got
the same reading in the alcohol thermometer. The reading was 0.0 degrees celsius.

Results table thermometer
First reading (degrees celsius) 0.0

Second reading (degrees celsius) 0.0

, Digital thermometer
Firstly we use the same ice and beaker that we used before in the alcohol thermometer. So
we turned on the digital thermometer and we placed the tip inside the beaker, and we
waited a few seconds. Finally we checked the temperature, the reading was 0.7 degrees
celsius. (evidence below).
I make another reading using the same methods as mentioned before, using the digital
thermometer. Also I swirl the ice using the glass rod, this reading was 0.8 degrees celsius.

Results table thermometer
First reading (degrees celsius) 0.7

Second reading (degrees celsius) 0.8

Evidence: First trial and second trial.
