,1 GETTING TO KNOW THE CODE OF CONDUCT (WHOLE SCHOOL
APPROACH)
As a pre-service (future) teacher, you need to have a thorough knowledge of the school’s
disciplinary codes from the very first day of teaching so that you are aware of the rules and
regulations that the school has put in place for its pupils and staff. This will assist you with a
variety of issues such as classroom management (knowing what to do if a pupil breaks school
rules in your class), and knowing what exactly is expected of you as a staff member etc.
On the first day at school, access the school’s disciplinary code and/or code of conduct for
both staff and pupils and study it. Answer the questions below in the space provided.
1. Do the pupils have access to the learner disciplinary code and code of conduct of
the school? Why is this important?
Yes. Learners should be familiar with the learner's disciplinary code and code of conduct so
they know what is expected of them at all times. what they should wear to school, how they
should act in class, and how they should conduct themselves, as well as the repercussions of
not abiding by these rules and the subsequent measures that would be taken against them if
they do not.
Students are generally prohibited from engaging in any conduct that may be analogized to
cheating, lying, or exploiting others in any capacity. A student is not permitted to engage in any
behavior that may put him in a position where he could cheat a teacher or another member of
the school authority.
2. Do staff have access to the staff disciplinary code and code of conduct? Why is this
important?
Yes. Having this code of conduct readily available to teachers is critical, as it enables them to
serve as role models for their children, as well as serve as a resource for them when students
ask about it. In order to guarantee that the standards of the school are maintained, it is
imperative that staff members be aware of how they should treat one other. The teaching staff
is aware of the guidelines that have been established for the school, and as a result, they have
a responsibility to guarantee that students follow the guidelines as well.
Code of Conduct for Instructors outlines the standards of conduct and behavior that teachers
must adhere to. To help teachers carry out their duties and responsibilities, it serves as a tool
that sets standards for how they should interact with pupils, parents, and the broader
community.

3. What is the procedure for staff who are ill and will be taking a day’s leave from school?
It is the teacher's responsibility to tell both the HOD and the Principal.
4. What must the staff member do upon returning to school after leave has been taken?
They are required to carry a doctor's letter with them and affix it to their absence form.
5. Does the school have standard procedures (consequences that are expected to be
implemented in all classes) for dealing with learners who do not complete homework as a
repeat offence? If yes, briefly explain this procedure.
Yes. The learners who don’t do their homework they the clean the classroom the whole week.
6. If the school does not have standard procedures for homework offences or if it is not
effective in motivating learners to keep their homework up to date, what would you suggest as
a consequence that could be implemented in the school for learners who do not complete
homework?
In order to get to the bottom of why the student isn't doing their homework, I think it's best to
have a private conversation with them about the problem. If the problem persists, I will involve
their parents.
7. Explain the benefits of having standard procedures that are implemented in all classes for
issues like homework, learners arriving late to class, disruptive learners, insolence etc.
The learners are better prepared overall and have a deeper comprehension of the
assignments they are working on. the instructors are able to devote more time to providing
education that is valuable to their students. This stops the classroom from degenerating into a
disorderly environment.
8. Explain the school’s procedure for learners who are regularly absent. If the school does not
have such a procedure or if it is not effective, what procedure can you recommend and why?
When a student is away from school for more than 2 days, he or she must provide a note from
a parent to explain the absence.
9. Briefly describe the dress code for staff at the school that will apply to you during your
teaching practice.
The attire that teachers are required to wear is range from professional to passable
semiformal. Sometimes some of the teachers were causal clothing.
