Discussion
Social media's perfect bodies are a negative influence.
Topic: Are social media's 'ideal bodies' a negative influence, or can you be proud of yourself
and publish anything you want?
Intro:
You see the 'ideal bodies' all over the place, especially on social media: Instagram,
Snapchat, Facebook, Pinterest and TikTok, but are they really so flawless? There's a six
pack here, a tanned figure there, flawless and clear skin, and no fat rolls. When you open
Instagram, you'll see all of these flawless photos, but is it really so great? Aren't individuals
affected by this far too much, and in a negative way? Nothing is as it looks with all of the
photoshop and editing applications; flaws and anxieties are eliminated, and muscles that
aren't really there are manipulated in such a way that it appears like he or she is in the gym
every day. What is shared on social media has a powerful influence on many individuals,
particularly young people. This considerably increases the level of uncertainty.
But who says you can't edit your own photos? You are free to post whatever you want as far
as you are able to. And shouldn't you be just proud of your body?
Pros:
- People have concerns about their body.
● People begin to question if they are too fat and if they are attractive enough. They
also question if they should change something about themselves or their way of life.
Should they go on a diet, and should they visit the gym more frequently?
● People aim to look their best by working out in the gym, running, and cycling. Is it,
however, beneficial to exercise so frequently? Not everybody can lose weight quickly
or completely, that depends on the body itself. Not everybody can get that thin.
- disordered eating / mental health
● Usually, a thin body is regarded as ideal. People also want to lose weight and will
adjust their eating habits to include eating less and exercising more.
Eating disorders may develop as a result of this.
● Most people begin a diet in order to lose weight. Some people believe that they
should consume as little food as possible while exercising as much as possible.
You've been so impacted by social media that you're obsessed with losing weight.
Eating disorders may develop as a result of this.
● All of those "ideal bodies" can have a negative impact on your mental health.
Everyone seems to have such a great body, yet the majority of people can't seem to
get it. They begin to question whether or not they are good enough, and whether or
not others still think they are attractive.
- You develop a negative self-perception.
● All of those flawless bodies lead you to believe that this is the ideal body, but this is
not the case.
● The entire world promotes a thin, toned physique as the ideal body, however the
majority of people do not own such a body. Let us not aim for the 'ideal figure,' but
rather ensure that everybody is lovely.
