Wanneer en waarom startte de vroegmoderne tijd? 1300-1800
Verschillende problemen teisterde de wereld, zoals de pest.
Den manier waarop problemen werden opgelost veranderde over de tijd.

De groei van wetenschap
In de vroegmoderne tijd waren mensen niet modern, maar de wereld waar we nu in leven
startte hiermee.
Het concept van ‘vroegmodern’ is niet bedacht door historici, maar door sociologen en
filosofen in de 19e eeuw.
Zij leefde door de verandering van samenlevingen, zij schreven over wat ze zagen en wat ze
dachtte te zien veranderen.
Karl Marx (1818-1883) het verschrikkelijk effect van industrieelwerk en de werk en
leefomstandigheden van arbeiders in de fabrieken.
Max Weber (1864-1920) de samenleving veranderde positief, leefomstandigheden werden
erg veranderd ook voor de arbeiders. Iedereen kwam er beter vanaf.
Er werd begrepen dat het gevolg hiervan was dat nieuwe normen en waarden en instituties
ontstaan, zoals individualisme, rationalisme
Een samenleving voor de modernisatie
1) Religie is een onontkoombare en een belangrijke discipline en mensen geloven actief
in wonderen en goden.
2) Goederen zijn gemaakt door nijverheid in huishoudens, met spierkracht, water, hout
en gebruiken van transport wind en dierkracht.
3) De overheid is een geaccepteerde macht, met tradities.
Een samenleving na de modernisatie
1) Religie is een leefstijl keuze en wetenschap is de standaard
2) Goederen worden gemaakt met massaproductie door fossiele brandstoffen of
elektriciteit net als transport.
3) De overheid is gemaakt om problemen van de mensen op te lossen.
Het ontstaan van moderniteit: Europese periodisering.
