3 main UK government bodies in Sport:
❖ DCMS ( Department of Culture Media and Sport) roles:
➔ They promote major sporting events throughout the UK to help increase participation and
attract visitors.
➔ Works with other departments to improve public health and educate on importance of
physical activity.
➔ Funds Sport England to promote lifelong participation
➔ Promote School Games programme
➔ To develop strategies

➔ They organise tournaments and competitions in the UK such as FA Cup and The

promote lifelong participation among 14-25 years olds. This expands the School Games
programme to provide more opportunities to play competitive sport.
❖ DoE (Department of Education ):
➔ Responsible for English education and children's services
➔ Works alongside with DCMS for school related sport initiatives.
➔ Each country has their own DoE.
➔ Gives large amounts of funding to improving PE in primary schools.
