Unit 5 MEETING INDIVIDUAL AND SUPPORT NEEDS.
P1
It’s important to promote equality for individuals because by doing that we can make sure
that people have access to the same resources and opportunities in health care setting.
Moreover, in Jim's case it would be important to make sure that he gets the right
treatments for his condition, James is 92 years and that could be used to discriminate
against him . Furthermore, Jim would need more of the doctor’s time to register than a 20
years old (Billingham et al., 2016), equality doesn’t mean that everybody is treated the same,
instead it means that everybody needs to be treated fairly, it is about recognising that
people have different levels of needs so it wouldn’t be fair to treat everybody the same
because we are all different from each other, equity means helping people get what they
need to upraise them to same level. Therefore Jim would need support from a care worker
than someone who is 20 years old because even though he is very independent he still
needs support in some areas of his daily life,.
Additionally, it is important to promote diversity because it can be beneficial to everybody
in our society, if we cannot respect each other (Consulting, 2020), it will have a significant
impact in the healthcare settings. Furthermore, diversity is defined as a variety of
differences among a diverse group of people (Billingham et al., 2016). It is important to
promote diversity in Rob’s case because it can help professionals understand that he is
normal his needs re just different and he should be treated with respect regardless of his
age, and sex orientation and would make him more comfortable within himself and the care
workers, by promoting diversity we can make sure that professionals feel comfortable
treating a diverse group of people (Alan. 2022) Moreover, in Jim’s case it would be
important to promote diversity so that he is not discriminated against for his religion since
he is Methodist, by promoting diversity it will make Jim feel included.

Preventing discrimination can have lots of impact in individuals with different needs, for
example by preventing discrimination towards individuals with different care needs will
reduce the likely hood of them developing conditions such as depression and anxiety, it will
also protect their rights since everybody deserves to have the same rights, same
opportunities and resources in their lifetime. Moreover, if we don’t prevent discrimination
to individuals with different care needs, they can have a loss in self-confidence, self-esteem,
and they might start thinking that they are valuable as people, discriminating against
someone can really change the way they see themselves.By preventing discrimination, we
will be reducing injury and death within the service users (Billingham et., 2016). Preventing
discrimination can help to stop arguments; everyone will be given equal chances and will
also be comfortable expressing who they really are.In Jim’s case preventing discrimination

, against him will make him feel more comfortable about going out more, life for example he
likes football so and will help him with socializing with other people.
In Rob’s case preventing discriminations towards him it can help him be more confident and
comfortable about his sexuality, for example he likes dressing up as women and therefore
due to the prevention of discrimination he won’t feel afraid of going out and being shouted
for expressing himself.
D1:

The government made initiatives to control discrimination and maybe eradicate it completely.
However, discrimination can not really be abolished because it comes from generations and
even if some people change others wont ‘change they way they think. One initiative is the Care
act 20214 which was implemented in 1025 and it puts regulations on how assessments should
be taken for individuals with care needs to be treated fairly and equally not matter their race, age
etc. (Stuvia. 2022). These assessments are available for suitable for all patients such as
disabled, this act is about giving people that need more help support but all give support for
those who don’t. In my opinion this act is good as it protects those who are more vulnerable, for
example, is Rob's case this will be beneficial as it will prevent him from any kind of discrimination
because of the way he dresses and his religion.

Additionally, the Equality act 2010 prevents 9 characteristic such as age, sex, religion etc. The
prevention of sex discrimination will allow more women to work as they won’t feel afraid of being
taken advantage of, by some employees are still breaking this law. Despite these was sex
discrimination Act is still a concern. However, this practice is good because people wont feel
afraid to get help from H&SC settings and it will be increasing the quality of life of patients.

Overall, promoting anti-discriminatory practice is helping to raise awareness gives people more
rights and help them fight for their rights, it promotes person-centered case which will raise
qualify of life and allow individuals with different care needs that are disabled, etc to feel
comfortable and protected.

Care professionals need to have a variety of skills. For example, communication is very
important when it comes to working with patients, their family and colleagues. The professional’s
tone of voice and their body language are very important to when handling difficult situations.
Being a good listener is very crucial when it comes to working in the healthcare sector because it
makes it easier for the patient to open up. The quality of the service patients receive is
dependent on the interaction with the healthcare professionals. Empathy, is important to have it
so that the professionals can empathize with the patients and their difficulties.

Passion, is skill that is necessary to professionals because helps to create a good wok
environment and high quality care for the patients. Commitment is important for professionals to
have to secure patients that they will receive quality are and that the professionals can be
trusted. Observational skills, this is key so that they care workers can be alerted of changes in he
patients condition therefore it will help prevent difficult situations. For example, if a patient
happens to be unconscious but happened to be sleeping before he will need immediate medical
assistance.

The tone of voice which the professionals use to speak and deliver something I.e., death of a
service user to their family, is important because if you speak to them with authority or loudly,
