Het abstract expressionisme in de Verenigde Staten bestaat uit:
- Action painting
- Colorfield
- Hard-edge
Bij action painting draait alles om het gevoel en expressie. Kunstenaars
zoals Jackson Pollock, schilderen in volle actie.
Bij de schilderijen van de colorfield stroming worden grote vlakken
