Ondanks nieuwe ontwikkelingen in de computer- en videowereld, blijft er
een behoefte aan traditionele kunst. Juist in het postmodernisme worden
de eerdere stijlen samengevoegd. Abstract en figuratief worden beide
toegepast.
De Nieuwe Wilden
De Nieuwe Wilden produceerden in de tachtiger jaren spontane, pure,
expressieve schilderijen. De stroming is ontstaan in Duitsland, omstreeks
1980.
De stroming wordt ook wel het neo-expressionisme genoemd.
Veel geschilderde onderwerpen zijn: dromen, het verleden, erotiek, angst,
agressie, somberheid en andere emoties.
Graffitikunst
In de jaren zestig ontstaat er in de Verenigde Staten een nieuwe
kunstvorm; Graffiti. De graffiti kunstenaars uiten hun visie/mening door
illegaal openbare plekken te bespuiten.
Er ontstaat een soort competitie onder de graffiti kunstenaars. Later
worden er plekken aangewezen die legaal bespoten mogen worden.
Tegenwoordig zijn er graffitikunstenaars die gebruik maken van ‘reversed
graffiti’: door het gedeeltelijk schoonmaken van bijvoorbeeld een vervuilde
muur in een stad, is het mogelijk daarmee figuren te maken.
Geïnspireerd door Andy Warhol, maakt de graffitikunstenaar Keith Haring
decoratieve figuren die eindeloos in elkaar over kunnen lopen. De
eenvoudig herkenbare vormen maken Keith Haring bekend en zijn werk is
nu, na zijn dood in 1990, wereldberoemd.
