Cecil Scott Forester was born on 27 August 1899 in Cairo and died on 2 April 1966 in California. He
was an English novelist and he was familiar with his series book ‘’Horatio Hornblower’’ and with
his novel ‘’The African Queen’’.
3. Explain the title of the story. (At least 25 words)
The book is called ‘’The African Queen’’, because the Germans invade Africa and Rose was forced
to flee with Charlie Allnut down the treacherous Ulanga river on his boat called: The African
Queen.
4. Who are the main characters? (At least 20 words per character)
Rose Sayer: Rose Sayer is 33 years old English woman and works in Africa. Her missionary brother

6. What do you particularly like and dislike in this book? (At least 40 words)
(Wat vind je vooral leuk en juist niet leuk in dit boek?) (don’t: difficult to read)
What I liked is that the book was very exciting, because you could not expect what would happen.
I also find stories about the war quite interesting to read, because during the war things happen
that you would not expect right now. What I disliked is that the writer of the book did not write
some words correctly, so you could not read everything. I think that is a shame, because it is a very
nice book.

7. What is the book about? Write a short summary (samenvatting) in about 400 words.
