PATRIOTIC BEHAVIOR

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Patriotic feelings are related to the attitude of love for the country. In ancient times,
the Indonesian people fought against the invaders by taking up arms to realize Indonesian
independence.
Today there is a decline in the spirit of patriotism among the nation's next
generation. This can be clearly reflected in the attitude of educated students in
participating in the flag ceremony. As participants, they should listen and pay close
attention in order to get a sense of the struggle and sacrifice given by the national heroes.
The spirit of patriotism must be instilled from an early age so that it forms a character. the
next generation of the nation who love and respect the homeland, as the next generation of
our nation we are aware that it is not enough to just appreciate the services of heroes, but
we must also carry out our duties as the nation's successor, namely to continue the nation's
struggle.
Trying to look deeper into the implementation of the flag ceremony is currently
going quite well, but there are still deficiencies in the participants, ceremonial officers and
infrastructure. The visible indicator is the lack of solemnity in carrying out the flag
ceremony because the participants busy themselves with various behaviors to relieve
boredom and fatigue. The ceremonial officers seemed less serious in carrying out their
duties and could not make time efficient.

The nature of patriotism is a trait that every citizen needs to have to continue to defend his
country so that it remains intact and victorious. This is because for people who have a
spirit of patriotism, it means they are willing to sacrifice for their country.
The meaning of this attitude of patriotism is mentioned in a book entitled Get Smart
Social Sciences compiled by Sri Sulestari (2007: 56) which states that patriotism is the
soul of someone who loves or defends the motherland, a true warrior, and a willingness to
sacrifice all his life and wealth. for the progress and glory of the nation.
Here are the points of patriotic behavior:
1. Maintaining the unity and integrity of the nation.
2. Loyal use of domestic products.
3. Willing to sacrifice for the nation and state.
4. Proud as a nation and state of Indonesia.
5. Prioritizing the interests of the state and nation above personal interests
6. Maintain the good name of the nation and state.
7. Achievement in various fields to make the nation and state proud.
8. Loyal to the nation and state, especially in facing the negative impact of globalization
on Indonesia.

B. The value of love for the motherland in the state
Love for the motherland is a feeling that arises from the heart of a citizen, to serve,
maintain, defend, protect his homeland from all threats and disturbances.
Love for the motherland and nation (Erwanti, 2011) is a pride for the children of the
nation because they are the ones who are able to make changes for their country. Love for
the motherland can be realized through ways of thinking and acting that show loyalty to
the nation and state. In addition, love for the motherland can also be done by caring about
the nation's problems such as economic, social, cultural, language, and politics. The
feeling of enthusiasm for the motherland is also called patriotism, while the feeling of love
for the country is called nationalism. Realizing a sense of patriotism and nationalism is
