Human INTERACTION ASSIGNMENT 3

Student Number: 12596388

Question 1

1.1. The main reasons for the development of the QWERTY
keyboard was to speed up typing without jamming the
mechanical arms of the Typing machine. An individual may
think why not alphabetical, the logic behind the QWERTY
keyboard typing system was the letter usage in the English
language. Similarly, multiple words typed with one hand on a
QWERTY keyboard e.g. ‘pumpkin’ and ‘minimum’ typed with
one hand. Concisely this keyboard system slows typists down
and avoids the jamming of the linkage arms of a typing
machine.

1.2 Three problematic mistakes made by UI developers

According to several developers, the following are problematic errors
made by UI developers:
 According to UI expert, Brett Derricott, The biggest mistake
according to him is the assumption of the designer is an end
user; the objective is to create an interface that creates an
interaction point with software that a first time user finds
intuitive at first. This allows less time for a trainer to spend
time adapting to a new user
He specified two rules:

, -Know thy user
-You are not thy user.

 According to UI expert, Mark McMillion, the biggest mistake UI
developers make are not focussing on what the user wants;
they focus too much on technical capabilities without taking a
user’s needs into account and how best they complement
them.
 According to Heather Inocencio, the biggest error User
Interface Designers make is being arrogant and not willing to
learn from users, interact with them, observe what they enjoy
the most from your program and listening to their feedback
that in turn can provide improvement in future programs.

1.3 Common mistakes made by UI developers:
 Inconsistency in UI elements: The use of different font styles,
colour styles creates confusion use a single font style to
maintain consistency since this provides ease of navigation
throughout your portal.
