1 Inleiding

Gender is een recent begrip.
à jaren 60.
In die tijd gaf het vooral de biologische en socioculturele verschillen weer tussen mannen en
vrouwen


Hedendaags kan men Gender omschrijven als:
à hetgene dat alle samenlevingen ordent en structureert met betrekking tot diverse
aspecten en niveau’s.
à onderdeel van de persoonlijke indentiteit.
à Omvat de persoonlijke identiteit, gedrag en sociale interacties, maatschappelijke positie
en macht

1.1 Vrouwenstudies – Genderstudies?

Zonder vrouwenstudies , geen genderstudies en vice versa.
Vrouwenstudies: oorsprong in de jaren ’70 in de feministische beweging waar er vooral een
focus werd gelegd op vrouwen.

Genderstudies: oorsprong jaren ’90. De focus lag hier vooral op gender, verwevenheid met
seksualiteit, klasse en etniciteit.
Men gaat de complexe verhoudingen van:
- De indenteiten
- sociale structuren
- culturele normen en symbolen
o transveraal
o intersiciplinair
o intersectioneel
o reflexief
gaan analyseren.
