Who’s who + summary
● Stanley Yelnats (IV): was the only child boy from a poor family and had
never been in a camp before he went to Camp Green Lake. So he
thought he would go to Camp Fun and Games, a camp which he played
with stuffed animals.
- He didn't have friends because he was overweight and the kids
teased him about his size. Even the teachers sometimes without
realizing it.
- After he worked his first day in the camp, he was given a
nickname: Caveman. He was the biggest of group D.
● Camp Green Lake: one hundred and ten years ago, Green Lake was the
largest lake in Texas. It was full of clear cool water and it sparkled like a
giant emerald in the sun. In spring, there stood peach trees, which lined
the shore, bloomed with pink and rose-colored blossoms.
- There was always a town picnic on the Fourth of July. Prizes were
awarded for the best peach pie and peach jam.
● Mrs. Bell: Stanley’s math teacher
● Stanley Yelnats III: Stanley’s father who’s an inventor. To be an inventor
you need 3 things: intelligence, perseverance and a little bit of luck, but
he hadn’t any luck.
- The family was crammed in a tiny apartment that smelled of
burning rubber and foot odor, which was because he was trying to
invent a way to recycle old sneakers.
● Mr. Sir: he wore sunglasses and a cowboy hat and he had a tattoo of a
rattlesnake on his arm. He used to smoke a pack a day, now he eat a
sack of sunflower seeds.
● Mr. Pendanski (just remember, Pen, Dance, Key): Stanley’s counselor. He
was younger than Mr. Sir. The top of his head was shaved so close it was
almost bald, but his face was covered in a thick curly black beard and
his nose was badly sunburned. His nickname was Mom, because the kids
in group D wanted to call him Mom.
● The Warden: a tall woman with red hair and dark red painted fingernails.
She wore a black cowboy hat and black cowboy boots which were
studded with turquoise stones. The sleeves on her shirt were rolled up
and her arms and her face were covered with freckles.
● Alan (Squid): the white kid
● Rex (X-Ray): the black kid, who wore glasses but they were so dirty you
almost can’t see anything through it. He was the leader of group D, and
he wasn’t the biggest or the toughest, but he was the smallest.
● José (Magnet): a hispanic
● Theodore (Armpit): was the biggest boy and he was black.
● Ricky (Zigzag): was the weirdest dude Stanley had ever seen. He had a
long skinny neck, and a big round head with wild frizzy blond hair that
stuck in all directions. His head seemed to bob up and down on his neck,
like it was on a spring. He may have been taller than Armpit, but that was
only because of his neck. He was a white kid.
