westkust naar Zuid-Afrika. De Portugese koning stelde in 1481 een nieuw doel: het
vinden van een zeeroute naar Indië. In 1488 bereikten de Portugezen het zuidelijke punt
van Afrika.

opgetogen dat de mensen uit Calicut ,waar hij was aangekomen,
hun god christus noemden van wat hij verstond. Maar in feite ging
het om Krishna een god uit het hindoeïsme. De Portugezen
verjoegen hun concurrenten en steden die niet met hen wilden
handeldrijven met oorlogsvloten. Zo drongen ze verder in Azië
door.
