Algemene economie: bestudeert de relaties tussen consumenten en producenten en tussen de
producenten onderling. Onderscheid kan tussen micro- en macro economie worden gemaakt.
Micro economie: hoe komt de prijsvorming op een bepaalde markt?
Macro economie: economische problemen van de maatschappij als geheel (inflatie, werkloosheid)
Bedrijfseconomie: richt zich op het economisch handelen binnen de productieorganisaties.

meer dan goedgemaakt dienen te worden door de opbrengst van de verkoop van de geproduceerde

Efficiency: de doelmatigheid van het productieproces.
Effectiviteit: de doelgerichtheid van het productieproces, de mate waarin het eindproduct geschikt is
om te voldoen aan de eisen van de afnemers.
