Het begon allemaal met het kerven op stokken en stenen, knopensnoeren (quipu) en gordels

4.1 Algemeen
Situering: -750 tot +472: er waren nog veel mensen analfabeet
Het ORR blijft bestaan tot 1453 (constantinopel -> instabul was dan in het noorden, de
romeinen hadden het meeste inpakt gehad)
1e eeuw: begin christendom
Romeinen schreven vooral op monumenten, wassen tabletjes, papirus (bron van schrijven)
o Papyrus(niet gelijk aan papier) werd opgerold tot volumen (=op en
afrollen)
Deze volumen waren steeg en hard en gevoelig voor breuk
o Op bepaalde momenten maakten ze er een folder van om volume te
besparen
o Later schreven de romeinen ook op dierenhuis -> perkament
van rund, schapen, kalven -> velijn!
Hoe ouder het dier, hoe makkelijker er gaten in kwamen
4.2 Romeinse Keizerrijk -750 tpt + 472

Capitalis Quadrata (1ste eeuw)
o Er is geen onderkast, het is een kapitaalletter
o Vooral op marmer met een bijtel
Capitalis Rustica (1ste eeuw)
o runen
o Enkel en alleen kapitalen
o Duurzaam materiaal met rietpen (voor rondere vormen)
