UNIT 19
P1
There are four types of teams that you can have which include formal,
informal, permanent and temporary teams. A formal team in Tesco
could be the manager who has a specific purpose which is to make sure
the rules and expectations are being followed by employees. An
informal team in Tesco could be when staff decide to go to e.g. the gym
as this is less structured also can give more influence through motivation
on employers compared to a formal team. A permanent team in Tesco is
the sales team as they are fixed in their job role; the performance can be
monitors in teams by using different performance. A temporary team in
Tesco could be the Christmas team who work overtime during Christmas
meaning the team is put together for a short amount of time to achieve
specific objectives, after the purpose is done the team will dissolve.
The first benefit of being in a team is that you can share expertise,
having this allows you and the group to take advantages of peoples
strengths which will increase performance levels when you are active on
your job role. Team working is important as it will help you to get
knowledge and strength from the expertise ‘person with the strength’ at
which will better you and the team’s performance. The second benefit of
being in a team is that there will be a reduction of alienation; team
working will allow interaction with other can make tedious jobs
interesting allowing the team to perform better with fewer mistakes.
Teaming working is important as it will make sure the individuals don’t
be put off track as their will be members in the team trying to make you
perform the best you can. The third benefit of being in a team is a target
setting and monitoring, this will allow good team leaders targets to be
monitored and set using available resources this can be important as the
team will be able to use resources which will help them complete their
objectives. The fourth benefit of being in a team through implementing
change, these changes can be implemented when the manager r leader
have divided jobs and target which are set, change is important as they
will be able to use change and better themselves every time. The final
,benefit of being in a team is that is promotes a wider sense of
ownership, as if someone does something the team fails, similar to when
the someone does well the team does well. Team working is important
as it will help the team better themselves and create positive sense of
ownership rather than negative.
An example of a previous situation where I worked as a team was during
mine and my teams presentation in college, we were allocated a which
was then divided into tasks for each member in the team, if we didn’t
know or was confused there was always a person in the team willing to
help and better the individual and teams performance.
The aim of the presentation was to show our understanding for trading
profit and loss account, balance sheet and ratio analysis; this was
presented and met the criteria for use to pass the assignment. My
contribution to the presentation was to research on balance sheets,
contributing to making the PowerPoint and presenting the slides I
decided to research on.
My strengths in this presentation was finding accurate statistics for
Tesco’s balance sheet over 2008-2009 and being able to speak clearly
when presenting the presentation. These were my strength as I found
good accurate information on Tesco’s balance sheet which helped me
during presenting the presentation as I was more comforting as I knew
what I talking about.
P2
The first key ingredient for a good team is that the team leader should
delegate the task, I have chosen this as every team needs a
representative that can motivate and better everyone else in the team
with their expertise and knowledge. Having this will result in a better
overall performance from the individual and the team. The second key
ingredient for a good team is that there should be trust among the team
members; I have chosen this as having trust is a foundation for every
team in my opinion as it shows the team are able to rely on each other
when an individual has an ongoing problem. The third key ingredient for
, a good team is that there should be good communication with the team
members, I have chosen this as members of the team should be able to
use communication to help them get their individual set out jobs done, if
needed other member can help them/ tell them what to do which will
better the team’s performance.
The fourth key ingredient for a good team is that there should be
flexibility and adaptability of team members in the role, I have chosen
this as if an employee is off sick their job role can be covered by another
individual who can multi-task and help fill in for the sick person. This will
result in the team getting their work done faster and will meet their
deadlines more appropriately. The penultimate key ingredient for a
good team is that a team member has a range of skills so skills are well
balanced in the team. I have chosen this as the team need to be overall
well rounded, rather than being exceptional in certain fields and weaker
in others. The final key ingredient for a good team is that everyone
knows their target and knows what the team as a whole wants to
achieve. I have chosen this as every member must know their objective
so they can help contribute to the teams objectives, having this allows a
pathway and opens up doors for any business.
The first way, Tesco could build/develop a team leader to delegate a task
into a group of workers who might otherwise have little in common
through setting out clear instructions making sure the workers know
their task. Another way is for Tesco could build/develop trust among the
team members into a group of workers who might otherwise have little
in common through taking workers out of their comfort zone and
trusting each other through exercises which relies a person to look out
for one another. Thirdly, Tesco could build/develop good
communication between team members into a group of workers who
might otherwise have little in common through keep on giving them mini
tasks which requires communication, the group of workers will get
better at communicating which will benefit Tesco. The fourth way Tesco
could build/develop flexibility and adaptability of team members in the
role into a group of workers who might otherwise have little in common
through making sure workers can multi task meaning when someone is
