The size of the business I have chosen which is Tesco is large as it is a
multinational-operating grocery and general merchandise retailer. Most
of Tesco’s sales come from groceries such as bread, milk, butter etc. In
2017, Tesco sales was up 1.6%, 1.2% in the UK and its 12th consecutive
,quarter of growth, this shows that the trends in sales of groceries is
what Tesco targets hence structures their plan on mainly food essentials.
Tesco’s operating profit in 2016/17 was £515,000,000 compared to
2017/18 which was a staggering £815,000,000 this was shows that the
structure of Tesco is stable and vastly growing. The number of
employees who worked part time for Tesco PLC during 2018 was
250,000 people, and 150,000 worked full time. This shows that the
structure of Tesco’s is well structured as they manage and schedule staff
on what days to work.
A new emerging concept in retailing is the establishments of stores in
front of large buildings of high traffic areas; they have been used much
more in the retailing industry over the past 5 years. The first example of
an emerging store type is shopping villages such as Bicester village. The
second example of an emerging store type is Factory shops such as Nike
factory. The third example of an emerging store type is Teleshopping
such as buying watches when being promoted on television.
Hybrid stores essentially offer a new combination of products in the
same store. An example of this is a subway and a petrol station this
would mean that it will be a local attraction in that area as it offers food
and allows you to refuel your vehicle. It also allows business to save
money through splitting the costs for e.g. electricity due to sharing the
building.
Business’ often merge physical outlets with online services using the
web, a model which allows this is click and bricks. This allows any
product which is bought online can be taken to a store for an exchange
or refund, if the customers have a reason to do so. Advantages of click
and bricks include they can utilise existing suppliers through free
deliveries if there was a problem, they use trusted and established
brands which customers know, However the main disadvantage of using
clicks and bricks is the cost.
Retail locations are a space you lease for the selling of goods to
consumers. When it comes to business, retailers have one overall goal
which is to sell merchandise. The first retail location is in town, which is
,usually discounts stores and an example of this is Poundland. The second
retail location is local, which is usually independents and an example of
this is corner shops. The third retail location is out of town, which are
usually membership clubs and an example of this Is Costco. The fourth
retail location is retail parks, which is usually specialist stores and an
example is B+Q. The final retail location is shopping villages, which is
usually specialist outlets and an example of this is Bicester village.
