INTRODUCTION

I am also going to use DOTMABE formula to draft a campaign that will be cost effective and
successful in influencing the targeted public this will be followed by the GVB awareness campaign. I
will breakdown the gender-based violence prevention by discussing its strength and weakness, I will
cover that it was important for the campaign to be successful by evaluating the campaign and it
strategies implemented this portfolio is about the gender-based violence prevention programme
and about Structuring a Campaign using a DOTMABE formula method. In addition, campaign
designers perform a situational analysis and set objectives leading to the development of a coherent
set of strategies

1. The 16 Days of Activism campaign

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign
that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against
Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the
inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated
each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy
by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination
of violence against women and girls.

The attitudinal impact on male respondents encouraged them to ‘stop abuse,’ to get
involved and to assist victims. Ninety-nine percent of the respondents emphasised that the
campaign should continue (in Nduna & Nene 2014) However, these positive responses about
the impact of the 16 Days campaigns have not led to a decrease of GBV and related forms of
violence. One could argue that the awareness is there but this has not led to behavioural
change for many perpetrators of GBV. Some activists have criticised the 16 Day campaigns.

Strengths of 16 Days campaign

 creates awareness and publicity about the problem of violence against women and children;

 assists and motivates some victims to seek help;

 encourages the involvement of everyone in condemning violence against women and
children;

 helped initiate the 365 Day National Action Plan;

 Provides a platform for continued discussion of GBV.

, Weaknesses of 16 Days campaign

 lacks significant, measurable impact;

 government departments and civil society organisations do not work together;

 insufficient scientific evidence about the impact of the campaign;

 campaigns are largely urban centred and fail to reach rural areas where there is a greater
need

2. The 16 Days of Activism campaign

Theres a need for campaigns in rural areas they should be implemented also since more
violence happens most in rural areas, it could make huge positive impact, men would see a
need for change since the campaigns would educate them that women are humans too,
they have to be treated well, protected and respected

3 There are some weaknesses within policies related to sexual and reproductive health and
parenting. Generally, it is recommended that policies, laws and plans utilise more specific
language and identify achievable strategies to address the problems they recognise and
articulate. Where applicable, it is important that laws, policies and plans make provisions for
the costing and budgeting of programmes, together with clear implementation plans.

4 In order to be pro-active in the women's rights discourse, POWA has initiatives that provide
sector capacity building and strengthening, law reform, research, campaigning, knowledge
creation and dissemination, rights education and regional and international strategic
engagement. These activities work towards keeping the issue of women’s rights with specific
focus on violence against women on the national agenda.

NGOs contribute to curative health service delivery by providing human and financial
resources, materials and equipment, sharing information, developing joint projects with
government, and developing national health policy, as well as creating joint committees with
government.

To see if the interventions has worked, I will take those who participated for the weight test
to see whether their weight has decreased or not and I will do that every month by
evaluating their progress and asses their change in behaviour regarding taking their health. It
will also be difficult when coming to children because they like sugar too much, they like
sweet things.
