Questions and answers. 1005 Accurate,
rated A+

What is the main purpose of an assessment? - ✔✔-An assessment is a tool used for measurement of
individual skill or mastery. The trainer utilizes assessments to find a starting point for a new client,
identify their abilities, and to reassess their abilities as the program progresses.

What form(s) should be filled out prior to any exercise performed under the supervision of a client by a
personal trainer? - ✔✔-Assessments should be administered as follows:

1. HEALTH HISTORY

Take 20-60 minutes to inquire about the past and current health and medical background of

the client before beginning a new program. Additional information that is important to gather

includes exercise history, equipment availability, goals and preferences.

2. PAR-Q

A Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire is designed to discover the small number of

adults for who physical activity is of medical concern or who may require medical consent by

a doctor before beginning a program.

3. ASSESSING 6 COMPONENTS OF FITNESS

(1). Body Composition and metabolic assessments

Assess muscle to body fat ratio and efficiency of the metabolism through varying methods:

Hydrostatic, Infrared, Calipers, Bioimpedance, Metabolic Testing, Girth measurements.

(2). Cardiovascular assessments

Determine resting blood pressure, resting heart rate, and VO2 max or sub-maximal tests

(aerobic capacity).

(3). Balance assessment

Determine client's ability to maintain body position in space.

(4). Flexibility assessment

, Determine joint ROM for the client through static and dynamic postural assessments in

search of muscular imbalances.

(5). Muscular Strength assessments

Determine current strength capabilities or force production of the major muscles of the

body.

(6). Muscular Endurance assessments

Determine muscular ability to exert significant force over a period of time.

Programs should be designed based on..... - ✔✔-Age, size, weight, current exercise program, fitness
levels, movement skills, injuries, diseases and current goals.

Macro vs Micro Assessment. - ✔✔-Microassessment: Informal assessments and should occur with every
step, every movement, and every repetition of every exercise.

Macroassessment: Formal assessments, occur at pre-designated periods for more formalized
performance checks. It includes checking biometrics (BP, BW, BF) for change after a 12 week program
design. Timing is important, as it is often best to have a complete rest day or series of lighter days prior
to holding a formal assessment, to ensure that the fatigue of training doesn't affect assessment results.

Areas to be assessed? - ✔✔-Health: Current state of physical well-being

Fitness: Current basic physical capabilities

Skill: Sport-specific technique and performance capabilities.

What are Health Assessments? - ✔✔-They are performed first as they are the least invasive and easiest
to implement. Should be done in this order as they are based on the concept that the assessments
which can be hindered by other activities are performed first.

Health Assessments (about 30-60 minutes)

1. Health/Fitness history (15-45 minutes)

2. RHR (2-3 minutes)

3. BP (2-3 minutes)

4. Weight ( 1-2 minutes)

5. Girth ( 2-3 minutes)
