How I live now Approach Paper

How I live now by Meg Rosoff is the story of Daisy who is a girl from the United States.
In the summer she is sent to her aunt, nephews and niece in the UK because her
father’s new girlfriend is pregnant and Daisy cannot deal with that. It seems to be a
great summer, especially since Daisy falls head over heels in love with her cousin
Edmond, but then a war breaks out. After a while, the war ends and Daisy can go home.
But she no longer really knows how to ground so she decides to go back to England. A
few years have passed and Daisy hasn’t been able to put Edmond out of her mind. She
didn’t get the welcome she had expected in England because Edmond is very
traumatized. But Daisy decides to stay with him and to build a life together.

Daisy: stubborn, in love, sad, lovable

Edmond: traumatized, mysterious, rebellious, sweet

Piper: charming, friendly, pretty, dog lover

1. Why does the title match the story?
2. Why can’t Daisy deal with the pregnancy of her father’s girlfriend?
3. How do Daisy's aunt, nephew and niece discover that she is in love with
Edmond?

From chapter 6 of part 2, page 211:

I know all about those conditions, only this time they’re outside of me. And anyway,
fighting back is what I’ve discovered I do best. After all this time, I know exactly where I
belong. Here. With Edmond. And that’s how I live now.

Daisy says she has discovered that you have to fight back. I think that’s an important
message of the story. She also says that she wants to live with Edmond. The book
describes the situation between her and Edmond extensively. At the end of the story,
she knows what she wants and how she wants to live.
