Assignment 1.1 Students Portrait:
Pupil Donna

She is a dutch pupil doing vmbo kader 3. Her understanding is relatively good, she
likes to show that she understands everything. However, sometimes she struggles to
focus due to her learning disability which is ADHD. Donna is very smart, and she is
problem solver. Moreover, she is very creative and thinks outside of the box. Due to
ADHD, she can be very disruptive in class. When the teachers confront her, she
becomes very defensive and she blames everyone except herself. In class, she is
very inquisitive if she likes the topic. If she is not interested in the topic then she will
start drawing in her notebook. She always comes unprepared to class; she always
forgets her materials. However, she does her homework on time. Donna is very
capable of working in groups, she likes working in groups and she does not distract
others. She is sometimes not interested in school and most of the time not focused
in class and this is because of her home situation. Her parents always fight, and they
are divorced. She tried to commit a suicide before because she does not feel that
she truly shows who she is.

Relating the Dimensions of Diversity to Donna:

- Talent and disability: Donna has ADHD, however, she tries her best and she
is creative. She is very inquisitive when the discussed topic interests her. She
wants to be taken seriously.
- Sex and gender: she identifies as being a female and she is biologically
female
- Sexual identity: she identifies as straight girl but she supports LGBTQ
- Ethnicity: she is fully Dutch; she likes to be exposed to different cultures. She
always listens to music from different countries too. She is very open minded.
- Religion: she is not religious. Her mother is religious. She said she respects
all religions.
- Socio-economic class: she is from a working-class family. She works at AH
because her parents do not give her enough money to spend on her needs.

Two instructional and/or educational needs. This will be reflected upon using the
STARR method:

Situation: Donna needs to participate more in class even if the topic does not interest
her. She also needs to bring all her school materials with her.

Task: it is important for the teacher to make the topic interesting for pupils to make
them participate in class. It is the teacher’s role to attract the pupil’s attention.

Action: as mentioned before Donna has ADHD, and it is therefore difficult for the
teacher to keep her focused and attracted to the topic all the time. Her level of
understanding is really good, she just needs to be interested in the topic, to be more
