, Abstract
Ptosis is the weakness of the upper eyelid that results in drooping in front of the ocular
surface. This can result due to several factors and it is crucial to treat to improve the
quality of life in the patient and also prevent further complications from occurring. Not
every patient with ptosis can undergo surgery due to health reasons as well as surgery
being often contraindicated. It is important to consider a non-surgical option that
minimises risks and provides satisfaction to the patient. A ptosis crutch is a safe option
that does not require surgery which attaches to the spectacle frame and elevates the
upper eyelids. This option is proven to be effective in most patients with correcting the
ptosis but complications such as comfort and dry eye can occur as result. It is in this case
that different options such as 3D printing and contact lenses have to be taken into
account. Broadening the treatment options for drooping of the eyelids is a positive step
as different correction methods can be offered to various types of patients and tailored
to their facial anatomies.
