In this assignment I will compare the roles of different members of a team and I will outline
the similarities and the differences between them applying Belbin’s Theory. As an activity
example I will apply ‘Tower Activity’, which was my class project.

In our team, I had the Co-ordinator role, and I had a
lot of responsibilities. The co-ordinator of the team
it is the leader and he must make sure that he is a
good example for the others.
I needed to focus on the team’s objectives, draw out
the team members and delegate work
appropriately.
As a co-ordinator, I first listened to all the ideas in
our team and I linked them and made sure that all
resources are used effectively in order to achieve
the team goals – building the tallest paper tower in
our class.

The Co-ordinator it is similar to a Plant because they
both got the ability to solve difficult problems in
unconventional ways, but the difference between
them is that the Co-ordinator it is more mature and
Co-ordinator
confident, while the Plant it is more creative and
(Medeea)
imaginative. Also, the Plant is sometimes too pre-
occupied with their thoughts and they cannot
communicate effectively, while the Co-ordinator it is
straight to the point and he is able to communicate
effectively with his team.

As a Co-ordinator, I was able to guide my team and
bring them all together in order to achieve our aim
and Shannon (Plant) helped me a lot to solve
different problems, such as making others
understand that the idea of making a small base for
our tower is not really a good idea. This is a
similarity between our roles because I was trying to
tell them the same opinion; but the difference is
that she couldn’t communicate effectively with the
team as I did. Also I think I was seen as a
manipulative person because I involved too much
and didn’t let the others doing what they were
actually going to do.

As an implementer Dragos responsibility was to take
practical steps and actions for our team such as
planning practical ideas, workable strategy and carry
it out as efficiently as possible. Dragos decided how
we will arrange our tower and how do we need to
foil and stick the papers in order to make the tallest
paper tower in our class.
