Executive summary
This research report is based on the business case of Huawei, a global technology
kingpin entity that has managed to sail through dust and mud to land at the top. The
background of Huawei is explored, which point to a smooth start, which had to meet
its roughest path in its major market, faced with severe institutional challenges such
as a tough legal warfare in the United States of America (USA) and its various allies
including the United Kingdom (UK) and various other countries where the navigation
of Huawei was blocked. Nonetheless, through thick and thin, Huawei made it to the
top three of digital and telecommunications industries while some of its founder like
Sony and Motorola had found it too hot to keep their feet on the ground and too cold
to navigate the top. Huawei could break the seal, against all odds and proved that
the bottom was too crowded for a giant to stay and confronted the cold top and
browse with twizzas. The key to Chinese success in Africa, specifically South Africa
was institutional compatibly, a factor that would be a death catalyst elsewhere.
