4. Algemene chemische mechanismen zijn hetzelfde

1/3de extracellulaire vloeistof: natrium ionen, chloor ionen, waterstofcarbonaat-ion, voedingsstoffen

Alle cellen leven in zelfde omgeving: ECF = milieu interieur (Claude Bernard, 1813). Cellen kunnen
leven en functies vervullen wanneer er geschikte concentraties zuurstof, glucose, verschillende
ionen, aminozuren en vetzuren zijn. Bevatten ook afvalstoffen (CO2 en afvalstoffen die opgeruimd
worden door nieren).
ECF is constant in beweging, diffusie tussen capillairen en interstitiële ruimte:
1. Transport van bloed door bloedvaten
2. Diffusie van ECF tussen haarvaten en interstitiële ruimte
In rust gaat bloed 1 x per minuut hele circuit door, bij inspanning soms tot 6 x.

Alle organen helpen om condities constant te houden. Ionen, voedingsstoffen en afvalstoffen
worden gereguleerd in een bereik van waarden. Voor sommige is bereik heel klein: waterstofion
concentratie, natrium concentratie.
Controlesystemen controleren handhaven van concentraties van ionen en substanties, zodat cellen
functies kunnen voltooien ondanks veranderingen in omgeving.
Ziekte is staat van verstoorde homeostase, maar vitale functies worden behouden door compensatie.
Compensaties kunnen leiden tot grote afwijkingen:
Ziekte waardoor nieren geen zout en water kunnen afscheiden hogere bloeddruk evenwicht
opname en renale excretie. Maar op lange termijn: hoge bloeddruk veroorzaakt schade aan nieren
verhoogde bloeddruk meer schade aan nieren.
Opname voedingsstoffen
1. Longen: Bloed neemt zuurstof op in alveoli (alveolaire membraan = 0.4 tot 2.0 micrometer
dik).
