Assignment 30.1 by Renee
P1: Describe the Hardware and Software Used to Create and Edit
Graphic Images
Introduction:
For this assignment I will be discussing the hardware and software devices
which are used to create and edit graphic images.
Hardware:
Graphic Card:
It is also known as a video card. It gathers digital information from an
operating system to show what is being displayed on a computer screen. It is
used for resolution and colour depth of a monitor display. Its purpose is to
display information on a computer screen in a format that is graphical. There
are several different types of graphic cards which affects the quality of
graphics that will be used. For instance, a graphics card with a large storage
and fast loading speed will produce good quality graphics. Modern graphic
cards come with a heat sink so that the card does not overheat; they also
produce images any computer monitor without interrupting the system. DVI
(Digital Visual Interface) cable is the connection that is between the graphics
card and computer monitors which graphic designers use and it is better
than VGA (Visual Graphics Array) cable which gives the monitor a better
picture. Graphic designers use 32 bit colour depth to give the colours it true
colour; 24 bits is used for colour while 8 bits are used to give transparency
information of 256 values from opaque to transparent.
Internal Memory:
Cache:
A device which has a fast electronic memory which is in between a RAM
and another device that is used to make a system faster. Modern hard
disks have a cache memory installed in a controls electronics which helps
the drive to work faster.
FAT (File Allocation Table) is copied from a disk to a cache so that the disk
address is found quicker; also an electronic cache is used rather than a
disk to access FAT.
If data from the drive is needed, it will requires data to be transferred by a
cache, and also the next data that will be on the disk, and so if a
computer needs it also the cache is already built into system.
Data which is on the disk is sent to the cache where drive electronics write
the data to the disk at a slow speed without reducing the performance of
a system.
