, 3 concentrations of work & organizational psychology:

• Personnel psychology: part of Human Resources. About recruitment, training,
selection, promotion, getting sacked.
o Human resources management: used for both individual as well as
organizational goals. For development of employees.
• Human engineering: human factor psychology. About capacities and restrictions of

Module 2
2.1
Methods:
1. Hypothesis (theory)
2. Depends on data
3. Must be communicable, open and public.
4. Science does not prove theories or hypotheses. It sets out to disprove them.
5. Disinterestedness: the expectation that scientist will be objective and not influenced
by biases or prejudices. (niet beinvloed door vooroordelen)
Expert witness: witness in a lawsuit who is permitted to voice opinions about organizational
practices.

• Offer novel insights
• Are interesting
• Are focused
• Are relevant to important topics
• Provide explanations
• Are practical
Two different contexts:

• Context of discovery: how did I find my hypothesis?
• Context of proof: how will I test my hypothesis?
Research design: provides the overall structure or architecture for the research study;
allows investigators to conduct scientific research on a phenomenon of interest.
3 basic types of designs:

• Experimental design: participants are randomly assigned to different conditions.
Random assignments to conditions allows researchers to be more confident that
there were not preexisting systematic differences between the groups that were
assigned to different conditions. (willekeurig ingedeeld)
• Quasi-experimental design: participants are assigned to different conditions, but
random assignment to conditions is not possible. (verschillende condities, maar je
kan niet willekeurig indelen)
• Non-experimental design: does not include any “treatment” or assignment to
different conditions. (onderzoeker wil informatie verzamelen zonder variabele te
