This is my Evaluation of the interactive multimedia product I used for GCSE ICT it got me a distinction *. This is obviously specific to my product but can be adapted to your own template!!
I have created and interactive multimedia product that can be used in the form of touch
screen devices in which educates and informs visitors about Birmingham so that they can
use it to find out what to do and where to go allowing it to be a chaos free visit.. It will help
them navigate to the best places and do the best activities so that they will have a trip to
remember in Birmingham. This visit will provide them with the most amazing experience
without any hassle due to my interactive multimedia product.
I think my product meets all the clients needs as i have tried to create my interactive
multimedia product around the client brief. Firstly have correctly chosen a local area, but I
have also took the initiative to make sure that the place I chose was somewhere that attracts
a lot of tourists instead of a place that is insignificant and has no tourists. Also, in my
interactive multimedia product i have made sure to include efficient, beneficial information on
the area in a way that a tourist, or someone who has never visited before, can understand.
Because the idea of my product is that it will be used by tourists and visitors i have made the
text and house style of my product persuasive and intriguing so that it directly meets this
purpose. I decided to include most of the details provided by my client brief , and I give
examples and options of good things to do so that it is easy to find recommended places to
go instead of them not knowing where to start and how to locate brilliant places in such a
huge overpowering city like Birmingham. By including these details i thought that it would be
a much more appropriate product, and fit its purpose much better if i provided everything
instead of focusing on one thing. I think this because if I was a tourist visiting Birmingham, i
would want to know everything and i would want to find everything out with one product
instead of having many different products that all focus on one thing, because this would
cause more pester making it more likely to be less used; which is the opposite of what the
purpose of this product is. Although I incorporated most of the details provided by the client
brief, I decided not to include accommodation. I did this because there are so many different
types of accommodation in Birmingham, from hotels to bed and breakfasts, hostels to lodges
to self catering etc… Because of such a big choice of accommodation I decided that if
people are looking for a particular accommodation (which most tourists are) it would cause
more prolonged hassel to refer back to my interactive multimedia product that may give
inadequate options for my clients when they are able to use the internet to filter results and
find exactly what they want quickly and easily.
I aimed this interactive multimedia product at 16-25 year old girls because i am around this
age range so i have an idea of what other girls would think is appealing. I think my product
suited this age range well as i have included a house stye that this target audience are
attracted to. For example, I successfully used sunset colours throughout my design, on
images, the background and buttons used so that i had consistency throughout my design.
This is important because consistency allows the client to become more familiar with the
product when they use it, furthermore it results in the product becoming more recognisable
as the target audience will recognise the colour scheme. However if it was a different colour
on each slide it would be harder to become familiar with and probably wouldn’t be used as
much due to the unrecognisable theme of the product. Also i used simplistic text for my
infomation so that it is quick and easy to read. This is good because it means that the client
wont have to stand around for ages trying to decifer the text. Despite this, i did use a curled
font for important parts of the slide as i knew it would make my product more girly and
attractive for my target audience, for example the headings and text on the buttons. But to
make sure that it was still easy to read i made the font bigger so that it could still be read
, without difficulty. So that more important words, that were in the simplistic font, could be
easily spotted when glancing at the text i put them in bold as the typical girl in my target
audience wouldn’t want to have to read through the entire text multiple times just to find the
name of a place etc… Additionally, in my interactive multimedia product i have tried to suit
my target audience by reducing my white space. I have done this because I had lots of white
space it would be less engaging for my target audience as it would seem boring and empty
to the eye, but also it gives off the impression that I couldn't be bothered to fill the spaces
further suggesting that my information provided isn’t the most reliable which would act
against the purpose of this product. Originally I was planning to include sound in my product
however to suit my target audience, I decided against it. I did this because I realised that my
target audience are less likely to have the patients than potentially more mature people so it
is necessary that my product isn’t bothersome. If my client is trying to read the information in
my product, and there is constant repetitive sounds in the background it wont allow them to
concentrate as well and would become annoying, it may even give them a headache and
may prevent them from using my product in the future. Furthermore, if my client is in the
Birmingham library, for example, and use my product to see where to go next, the constant
sound would disturb the people around them and may even embarrass them, restricting
where they will use it meaning that they won't use the product as much which is wrong as
this product is designed to be hassle, stress free, not embarrassing.
After viewing my product I have come up with some good areas, and areas for
improvement:
A strength of my product is that i have included information that is suitable and will engage
my target audience. In my product I have included information about things like: shopping,
concerts, cocktail bars, and escape rooms etc… I did these particular topics because my
target audience will be of an age where they want more independence, they want to go out
with a group of friends and do stuff. These particular activities are ones in which typical girls
will want to do, for example almost every girl likes to go shopping with her friends so by
including this it may give them more of a positive outlook on things because they already
know they enjoy one of the activities I have suggested which may give them more of an
open mind to try the rest of activities I have suggested. Instead of making this whole
interactive multimedia product about cocktail bars and getting drunk, i decided to do only one
cocktail bar and I chose it so that it was combined with the activity of mini golf as well. I did
this because in a group of girls not all of them will want to get drunk however if all their
friends are drinking they may feel awkward and out of place. However with this mini golf
cocktail bar it solves this problem as the people who want to get drunk can however the
people who don’t, don’t have to and they will still have a good time playing mini golf and
messing around with their friends. This allows everyone to have options on what to do
without feeling embarrassed and isolated resulting in everyone having a great, memorable
time.
Another strength to my interactive multimedia product is that when tested, i found that all my
buttons and external hyperlinks work. In my product I found that it was necessary to include
buttons, so that my client could easily navigate around the slides to the information needed. I
also found that it was important to include external hyperlinks in my product so that my client
could obtain even more information about specific areas. And it also allows them to book
things online and brows on certain websites instead of having to use their phones to find
this out which would be more time consuming and the opposite in which this product is
about. By these elements working in my product it makes the navigation system of my
product better as it is simple and easy to get to the slide you want and it won't be confusing
