I work as a Communication Design Engineer and I have been asked by our
company to put together some training notes for new starters and for
existing staff below our details of all requirements.
Explain types of networks
LAN (Local Area Network)
A local area network, often known as a LAN, is a system of linked cables, access
points, switches, and routers that enables users to connect to other servers
located within, websites, and other LANs through a wide area network in
workplaces, classrooms, or homes.
"LAN" is the correct spelling for "local area network." A LAN is a network that can
only be accessible inside a restricted region, perhaps a single building, as opposed
to this network, which is a collection of two or more linked computers. In
households and small companies, LANs generally take the form of Wi-Fi networks.

Essentially, this type of communication allows businesses to conduct normal
business activities efficiently regardless of their location.

(WAN). The reason for this was the need to connect many stations via the Semi-
Automated Ground Environment (SAGE) radar defense system. Numerous
dedicated telephone lines, telephones, and modems connected the sites.
The Internet is the world's largest WAN, so it's the easiest to understand. The
Internet is known as a Wide Area Network (WAN) because it connects many
Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and smaller Local Area Networks (LANs)
used by ISPs.

Wireless Network
Mobile devices such as laptops and smartphones can wirelessly connect to work
networks, the Internet, and their applications through a wireless local area
network (LAN). What is the difference between a Wi-Fi or wireless network and a
wired network? Wireless networks allow devices to roam freely while remaining
connected to the network.
The most common means of communication between network nodes is radio
waves. A network connection is activated as the device moves through the
network's coverage area. Two or more network devices can be connected to a
LAN using wireless distribution technology.
A computer network is said to be wireless if the network nodes are connected via
radio frequency (RF) links. Wireless is more favorable for home, business, and
communication networks.
Cables are used in wired networks to connect devices such as desktops and laptop
computers to the Internet or another network. In contrast to wireless networks,
wired networks have some drawbacks. The main drawback is connecting the
gadget to the router. Most wired networks use cables that connect a computer or
other device on one end and an Ethernet port on a network router on the other
end.
Wired networks were perceived as faster and more reliable than wireless.
However, wireless network technology is constantly improving. An example is
network standard B. Wi-Fi 6.
Computer networks that do not use wires are called wireless networks. Network
node communication generally uses radio waves. Devices are provided with
network connectivity as they move within the coverage area of the network.

Star
A star topology is the topology that networks use. In computer networks, star
networks apply the spoke-hub distribution model. A central hub in the star
network is connected to each host. In its simplest form, communications are sent
through a central hub. The star network topology is one of the most commonly
used topologies in computer networks. One of the most common network
topologies is the star topology, commonly referred to as a "star network". Each
node in this setup is connected to a device that acts as the hub of the network. B.
A computer, switch, or hub. Various network nodes act as clients, and the main
network device acts as a server.
A central hub is responsible for monitoring device communication in the star
network. However, these communications can be handled in various ways from a
central hub.
Bus
Each network node is directly connected to the backbone, a central wire that runs
throughout the system, in a bus design. The backbone is used to move data until
it reaches the right node.
The bus topology uses coaxial cables or RJ-45 network cables to connect the
computers, depending on the type of network card installed in each computer.
The advantages and disadvantages of using bus topologies in devices are
discussed in the next section. It works perfectly if your network is small.
Local area networks often use this concept. The single cable that connects each
node of the system is called the "backbone." If this backbone cable fails, the
entire network will collapse. Bus networks are very easy to set up and use.
