Good morning everyone. My presentation will be about green energy. It will take 5 minutes. If you
have any questions, you can ask them after my presentation.
Normally, what we call ‘basic power’ is made by burning oil, coal or gas in order to eventually boil
water. This creates steam. This steam drives a large generator. Which then gives power to the grid. In
some countries they use nuclear power, in which case the fuel is called uranium. Green electricity is
made very differently. It is electricity generated from renewable energy sources. It is also called
renewable electricity, natural flow or eco-power. But there are many more names. Durability means
that the energy source is limitless, because green energy will never run out. For instance the sun,
wind and hydropower.
Oil, gas and coal will slowly, but surely run out. But fortunately we still have a stock of it. There is also
green electricity made from biomass. That means for example manure , waste or waste from trees
and plants. We can always place new trees and plants, we can always continue to use it for energy.
Therefore we called green power , renewable energy. Green power has another advantage. It is
clean electricity.
With extraction and conversion, there are hardly any adverse effects on the climate and the
environment. But with coal, oil and gas this is different. We call this Fossil fuels. If they are burned
carbon dioxide is released. That is one of the main causes of the greenhouse effect, making the Earth
warmer. This causes great harm on earth. What causes the damage? It is caused by the waste
produced when something is burned. This residues are called carbon dioxide or C02. C02 is a gas that
you cannot see and smell and is also naturally present in the atmosphere. If there are enough trees
and plants, this is not so bad. Carbon dioxide is important for green plants. Plants conceal this carbon
dioxide in their leaves and use it to release oxygen in the air. This is called the carbon cycle. This is
like the respiration of a plant.
Nuclear energy also has some disadvantages. You can think of dangerous radiation and you remain
stuck with radioactive waste, of what still nobody knows where this should go to in the end. The
radiation and waste are very carcinogenic.
With green energy, there is no effect on the climate. Solar is there always and wind and hydro energy
convert your already existing energy only in a different type of energy. There is no C02 or carbon
dioxide.
If we do not Quickly search for alternative source of energy, the energy price will increase. That is
bad for the economy. It is always better to make green electricity. The solar panels and wind
turbines deliver more power. New inventions shall ensure that electricity is derived from natural
sources that have not previously been used this way.
There are also a lot of fun and useful inventions with green energy. You can think of calculators and
flashlights on solar energy. You also have bus shelters with lighting from a solar panel. And also you
have a phone booth in the desert on solar energy.
You can also buy solar panels for the roof. When you buy solar panels you get subsidy from the
government. This was my presentation, thank you for your attention. Any questions?
