Tema 3 – Iv. De mercados, La información es el elemento clave y objetivo en cualquier proceso de investigación de mercados.
Por eso es necesario conocer cuáles son las fuentes de las cuales podrá provenir.
Para llevar a cabo una investigación de mercados se puede tomar información de diversas fuentes;
de hecho generalmente se suele recurrir a una combinación de varias de ellas. En la siguiente figura
se muestra una introducción a los distintos tipos de información existentes, distinguiendo si se
circunscribe al entorno de la empresa (interna) o no (externa), si es de uso público (pública) o no
(privada), y si es ad-hoc para la investigación (primaria) o se trataba de información ya existente
(secundaria).

Las fuentes de información secundarias son todas aquéllas que no se elaboran específicamente para
la investigación en curso, sino que fueron elaboradas con anterioridad, generalmente con un
propósito distinto del actual, de modo que se encuentran disponibles para su consulta en el
momento de la investigación actual.
