Plato: Wat is het mensbeeld van Plato?
Plato’s mening over het mensbeeld is dat mensen een ziel hebben en dat deze ziel eeuwen
lang zal voortbestaan. De ziel heeft volgens hem geen begin of einde. Er is dus geen moment
wanneer de ziel ontstaan en er zal nooit een einde komen waar de ziel vergaat. De ziel zal
eeuwig aanwezig zijn.
Het lichaam was volgens Plato de kerker van de ziel. Tijdens de geboorte zal de ziel in een
lichaam van een bepaald mens terecht komen. Hierdoor zit de ziel in het lichaam gevangen
zoals iemand gevangen zit in een kerker. Wanneer diezelfde persoon sterft, zal de ziel die bij
deze persoon behoort weer tot beschikking komen. Wanneer de ziel in een lichaam leeft,
draagt deze veel kennis bij zich. Het is niet zo dat de kennis nog moet groeien tijdens dat de
ziel in het lichaam zit. De ziel bevat al die kennis al voor dat deze in de ziel terechtkomt.
Ik heb dit schilderij ( GEDICHT VAN DE ZIEL. HET IDEAAL (1835-55) - LOUIS JANMOT) gekozen
om het mensbeeld van Plato te verduidelijken. Het schilderij beeldt de ziel van een persoon
uit wanneer de persoon sterft en de ziel het lichaam verlaat en hierdoor terug vrijkomt.
Mijn filosofische vraag gaat als volgt: wat vindt u nu wat onze ziel juist inhoudt? Denkt u dat
de ziel weer vrijkomt en beschikbaar wordt na een sterfte zoals Plato’s visie? Wat denkt u
dat er gebeurt nadat iemand sterft? Heb je dezelfde visie als Plato?
