Jack may go through many psychological changes such as decreased self-esteem
as he is not able to skateboard anymore which has a negative effect on his social
interactions as he will not be able to socialise with his friends which can have an
emotional impact on Jack. Furthermore, Jack is socially isolating himself and has
become withdrawn, which is due to Jacks environmental circumstances. For
example, Jack has a single parent who leaves him for long periods of the day and
night. This has an impact on Jack’s social well-being as he doesn’t receive enough
attention and support from his mother, resulting in social isolation.
Jack suffers from depression and discloses he has suicidal thoughts which can result
from a number of factors. For example, Jack may feel alone due to his injury and his
Mother always working, which shows that Jack has a weak relationship with his
Mother. Therefore, Jack may use self-harm as well as smoking as a coping
mechanism for his emotional and physical pain which he is experiencing from the
tibial fracture surgery. As Jack is unable to socialise with his friends due to his injury,
he may feel depressed which can have a negative impact on Jack’s mental health as
he may find it difficult to cope without his friends, which affects his social interactions.
Jack’s change in social behaviour has had a knock-on effect on his emotional state
as he is having suicidal thoughts which has led Jack to self-harm. Furthermore, as a
nurse it makes it challenging to overcome certain barriers such as effectively
communicating with jack as he shows behaviour such as social isolation.
