THE DEADLY RISE OF THE VIRUS COVID 19
We sincerely hope everything is going well for you. As an organisation committed to halting the spread of infectious diseases, we wanted to use this
opportunity to reflect on our efforts and to share with you some of the strategies we have been using to accomplish so.
What is Covid 19?
The SARS-CoV-2 virus is the infectious respiratory disease known as COVID-19. After being originally discovered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, it
quickly spread over the world to become a pandemic. When a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, talks, or breathes, respiratory droplets can
spread the illness, which is highly contagious. The most typical signs of COVID-19 are fever, coughing, and breathing difficulties, yet the virus can also
bring on a wide variety of other signs and consequences. While some COVID-19 sufferers only have minor symptoms, for others, especially the elderly
or those with underlying medical conditions, the illness can be severe or even fatal. There are still continuous efforts being made to stop the spread of
COVID-19 by vaccination, public health measures, and research into new therapies and prevention methods as of May 2023.
Methods that assist in preventing Covid 19:
Masks - Inhaling the covid virus, which can remain in the air, increases the chance of covid 19 transmission. Respiratory protection, like as face masks, can prevent covid
transmissions, especially in areas where the disease is endemic, but resources are scarce. Masks act as a physical barrier that collects cough and sneeze droplets from infected
individuals; if these droplets enter the mouth, nose, or lungs or are inhaled, the virus is transferred to another individual. The mask stops these droplets from entering the
surrounding air by capturing them, but it also stops other people from inhaling them. One benefit of wearing a mask is that it protects both you and others from getting sick
by allowing both infected and healthy people to do so. Masks have the advantage of protecting not only the wearer but also those around them, as they can be worn by those
who are sick and healthy to prevent the spread of the illness and the acquisition of it, as well as by those who are unable to wear masks. The refusal to use masks is a
drawback because it raises the danger of transmission. Some people may find them bothersome or painful to wear. The spread of infectious diseases and ailments affecting
the respiratory system can be greatly slowed down by the usage of masks. Studies have shown that using masks can help prevent the transmission of a number of respiratory
illnesses, including influenza, TB, the common cold, and COVID Mask effectiveness can, however, vary depending on a number of factors, including the style of mask, how well
it fits, and how it is worn. In order to prevent the spread of illnesses from patients to healthcare workers, masks are widely worn in healthcare settings. They can be effective in
reducing the transmission of respiratory infections in communal settings when paired with other preventive measures like hand washing and social seclusion.
Isolation / quarantine- Contagious patients must be kept apart from other persons in order to prevent the spread of an virus In the case of covid, seclusion can help to limit
the spread of the bacterium from an infected individual to others by avoiding intimate contact. This can be accomplished in a number of methods, for as by housing sick
individuals in medical centres, resorts, or specific covid treatment centres. Isolation has a very beneficial effect on the prevention of covid 19 transmission by reducing the
number of individuals exposed to the virus. The process of isolating a COVID patient involves removing them from the general population and placing them in a clean
environment where there is less danger of the illness spreading. This decreases the population's risk of contracting COVID, which may help prevent an outbreak from
occurring. For patients with COVID, one of the biggest drawbacks of isolation is that it can lead to psychological and interpersonal problems. Covid patients who are cut off
from their families, friends, and communities may experience loneliness, depression, and anxiety. Social isolation may lead to a lack of social support, which is essential for the
healing process. This may have an adverse effect on the patient's physical and mental health, which in certain cases may even deteriorate. Covid transmission is significantly
decreased by isolation. When a person with the infection is kept apart from healthy individuals, the likelihood of transmission is reduced. In addition, Isolation could be
necessary or voluntary depending on the situation. When a sick person chooses to isolate oneself, it's to prevent the infection from spreading to others. Mandatory isolation
occurs when a public health agency instructs an affected person to isolate. Isolation can be especially helpful for diseases like covid that are extremely contagious since it can
reduce the number of new infections and halt the disease's progression. Depending on how contagious the sickness is, isolation times vary, but those with extremely
contagious conditions must be isolated for a longer time.
Physical measures - Another way MSF stops the spread of virus is by encouraging physical precautions like active and frequent cleaning and social isolation. By limiting
people's contact with other people, this lowers their risk of contracting the virus and spreading it. The risk of spreading the illness is decreased by routinely wiping surfaces like
tables and countertops, and the regularity with which a room is cleaned also minimises the presence of the virus and the chance of contact. This has the benefit of being very
accessible and simple to use; cleaning materials are simple to locate, require little time, and don't have any negative side effects like vaccines do. The greater possibility of
losing a sense of belonging is a drawback of social isolation; these neglects learning and progress and also stops people from socialising properly, which is a basic human
requirement. Physical controls on the spread of infectious diseases, such as regular cleaning and social seclusion, are important. Social distancing practises, such as
maintaining a space of at least 6 feet between persons, reduce the possibility of the virus spreading through respiratory droplets. When combined with additional precautions
like wearing a mask, avoiding crowded places, and keeping up with basic sanitation, social distance can significantly reduce the transmission of infectious diseases.
Furthermore, the transmission of infectious diseases can be slowed down by routine surface cleaning and disinfection, particularly those that can survive for long periods of
time on surfaces. In order to reduce the risk of infection, surfaces can be disinfected or cleaned with soap and water to kill or remove viruses.
Vaccines - One of the best ways that Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) prevents the spread of the coronavirus (covid 19) is through vaccination. By exposing the body to
antigens that are similar to those on a pathogen, vaccines help the body's natural defences develop an immunity to diseases, in this case covid, thereby limiting the spread of
the illness. The vaccine has proven to be incredibly helpful because it consistently protects against the most severe kinds of covid, especially in kids. Herd immunity, which
occurs when a sufficient number of people receive vaccines, means that the disease is less likely to spread to persons who cannot receive immunisations, is another benefit of
vaccinations. The vaccination does have certain drawbacks, though. The vaccination does have some drawbacks, though, such as side effects that may discourage some from
getting it. Vaccines also carry a small risk of adverse responses, such as allergic reactions or discomfort and pain at the injection site. Herd immunity is impacted because
fewer members of a community receive vaccinations as a result. It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of vaccines in halting the spread of infectious diseases.
Immunity to the pathogen that the vaccine is meant to prevent is developed in those who receive shots. This immunity can reduce both the likelihood that an individual will
develop the virus if exposed to it and the chance that they will disseminate it to others. The degree to which vaccines prevent transmission varies depending on the vaccine
and the organism it targets. Studies have shown that some immunisations, like the measles vaccine, can reduce transmission by as much as 97%. Other vaccines may lessen
transmission somewhat, but they can still significantly slow the spread of the disease. Furthermore, it's important to keep in mind that vaccination can significantly reduce
transmission by fostering herd immunity. Herd immunity occurs when a sizable section of a population is resistant to a pathogen; this makes it much more difficult for the
virus to propagate throughout the neighbourhood. This is crucial for those who cannot get immunisations, such as small children or people with certain medical conditions.
As part of our organisation, we recommend the community do adhere to these specific protocols in order to protect themselves and their family from such deadly viruses.
Over the past years we have saved many lives through our organisation and our guidelines that we have put into place for people to benefit from, we hope to save twice as
many lives once again at times like this where we need each other as a country, to get through this worldwide pandemic. We appreciate your continued assistance in this
crucial endeavour as we remain committed to stopping the spread of harmful viruses. We appreciate your adherence and commitment to our cause.
