, Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
Analysis is a branch of mathematics that deals with continuous change and with certain
general types of processes that have emerged from the study of continuous change, such as
limits, differentiation, and integration. There would be this specific time that an individual
would be engaged in situation and puts them into a trial that would test the length of the patience,
the strength to cope this and the difficulties facing by the person. Some students are having hard
time to cope up with mathematics especially analyzation. Also, some of them, though they excel
in math, find it hard to accept their mistakes because of their carelessness about analytical
purposes. Thus, these will affect their achievement in the field. The students may experience
failure in the subject did not perform well. This challenge which gives the students the ability to
be more logical and analytical in solving not only mathematical problems, but can be also
applied real-life situations. Students in mathematical problem-solving situations often experience
confusion and loss of meaning. The student must then be helped to form calculation procedures,
using simple example and then increasingly difficult ones in order to comply with the cognitive
load limitations in the question.
The Universidad de Manila (UdM) formerly known as City College of Manila is a public
university and is currently located in Manila, Philippines. It is one of the best schools in Manila
where in the knowledge of deserving individuals gained in so many experiences through the help
of each other’s motivation. At present, analysis has accumulated such an enormous body of
results that a ‘brief review’ of the field is literally impossible number. A previous statistical
analysis showed that students who engaged with these supports were more likely to succeed than
those who did not. Mathematics, as we see it, has the following roles in Philippine Education:
facilitating participation in productive life activities, providing a way of making sense of the
world, serving as a means of communication and operating as a gateway to national progress.
The students can produce some incorrect answer but they follow different ways of thinking and
finally they can propose correct answer that spring from incorrect knowledge. Some wrong
answer are knowingly given by students, when there is “ no better option”. In these situations,
affective and social factors are also as much part of the student's thinking and behavior as are
cognitive factors. These additional factors might include the need to make sense and the need to
meet expectations of the authority figures. It can based through teacher’s collective work in
which the students developed deeper understanding of mathematical thinking. It can also
depends on attitudes on how the students cope with mathematical analyzation can be seen as
more or less positive. A positive attitude towards mathematical reflects a positive emotional
disposition in relation to the subject and in a similar way, a negative attitude towards
mathematical relates to a negative emotion disposition that have an impact on an individual’s
behavior, as one is likely to achieve better in a subject that one enjoys, has confidence in or finds
useful.

, For this reason the students analyzation towards mathematical are desirable since they may
influence one’s willingness to learn and also the benefits one can derive from mathematical
instruction despite the many changes to the curriculum, the goals of mathematics education at the
basic education level remain more or less the same: “to provide opportunities for individuals to
develop skills and attitudes needed for effective participation in everyday living and prepare
them for further education and the world of work so that they make worthwhile contributions to
the society at large” (Pascua, 1993). This study can be beneficial to those students who are
experiencing mathematical analyzation for this can provide information in the way to have a
better idea in coping mathematical analysis in such problems and also to know the significant of
this research study. This research will also benefits to the parents, teachers/professors for them in
knowing additional information about coping mathematical analysis that already face each
individual students circumstances. This paper forms part of a study at Universidad De Manila
(UDM) into how many of Grade-12 Abm students are coping Mathematical Analyzation. This
study aims to find out where the students get an effective and efficient information in coping
different mathematical analysis and also those students who are not capable or comfortable in
doing or experiencing the mathematical analyzation that leads them to failure.

Significant of the study
The researchers give importance to the students, teachers/professors, school administrator,
parents, and future researchers that can be beneficial to the results of this study.
 To the Students- this study can beneficial to those students who are experiencing mathematical
analyzation for this can provide an specific information in the way to have better idea in coping
mathematical analysis in such problems.
 To the Teachers/Professors- this research can be beneficial to the teachers/professors who are
capable to have a good interaction with their student’s intellect in a good and better way.
 To the Parents- this study will also benefits to the parents for them in having the additional
information that already face each of their children as a student in dealing with such
circumstances about in coping mathematical analyzation.
 To the School Administrator- this study can be beneficial also to the school administrator in
guiding the teacher/professor’s path and knowledge on what should be emphasize in the school
curriculum that can improve the students performance in mathematical analyzation.
 To the Future Researchers- this study will also benefits to the future researchers who will also
have same study about in coping mathematical analyzation in such school that can help them
provide the uncritical areas that can’t able to explore and also can contribute a new theory in
their research study.

, Scope and Delimitation
A purely descriptive quantitative data will be shown by the researchers upon gathering data
from the respondents. This study is focus on the 200 Grade 12-ABM students within the
Universidad De Manila. The structured survey questionnaires will be given to the selected ABM
students respondents out of the population of Universidad de Manila. The researcher being an
ABM student also, want to gain more information about on how to cope in mathematical
analyzation. Having 5 sections of ABM class, the researchers will use the collected data to
answer the following Statement of the Problem.

Statement of the Problem
This research is conducted to determine and try to find out the Grade 12-ABM students of
Universidad De Manila concerning in coping mathematical analyzation. This research study
wants the answer of every Grade 12-ABM students in Universidad De Manila in each of the
following:
1. How does the students deal with difficulties in terms of mathematical analyzation?
2. What are the techniques of students in coping mathematical analyzation?
3. What are the students perceptions towards in coping mathematical analyzation?
4. What are the benefits of the students in coping mathematical analyzation?
5. What are the possible solutions that affects the students in coping mathematical analyzation?
