Assignment 11-unit C
P4: Follow procedures to carry out an investigation of a road traffic collision.
What: Car crash and fleeing the scene of the crime. This is believed to be a secondary
crime scene.
Where: Long Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire, MK42 124.
When: 06.03.2023, 8:30pm.
Weather: slight breeze, cloudy but dry.
Road activity: minimal to none.
, Image of vehicle rest position, with tyre marks and lose trye from the car .
- When arriving on the scene, we measured the skid marks to be 8.7meters in
length from the road to where the vehicle crashed.
- The fact that the skid marks were so bold could indicate that the brakes had
experienced significant pressure and had been slammed on quite fast.
- The witness statement cooperates the resting position of the vehicle, it stated
that the car had swung round into the corner of the wrong lane.
- To the right side of the car was a loose trye that had come from the accident. It
had a tyre tread depth of 4.33mm, which is very much over the legal limit for the
tries (which is 1.6mm).
- I also used a sheet of tracing paper and wax crayon to document the pattern of
the trye for later reference.
- There was broken glass surrounding the windscreen of the vehicle, when looking
inside the car, pills, other drugs, alcohol bottles, a gun, a few strands of hair and
a handwritten note stating, ‘you better have my money – H'.
- There was blood outside the car on the driver's side of the vehicle.
- Glass from the windscreen was collected and placed in a solid plastic container,
drugs from the inside of the of the vehicle were picked up using tweezers and
placed into a labelled evidence bag.
- A swab was used to collect the blood from the outside of the vehicle and then it
was placed into an evidence bag, labelled with all the relevant information on it.
- To collect the hair, I used tweezers and then placed it into a labelled evidence
bag.
- After the investigation was concluded, the driver was arrested, and a breathalyser
test found that their blood alcohol concentration was 0.3% which a very high
number compared to the legal limit of 0.8% in the UK.
- The witness statement helped with the apprehension of the suspect as Mr B
lightyear stated that he saw the driver running away from the collision, down
Long Road, he seemed to be injured as he was ‘waddling’ away from the collision.
