B329 Leadership in a Changing World (B329)
Institution
The Open University (OU)
This end-of-module assessment (EMA) rewards your participation in B329 social-media activities, and integrates your learning from Block 3 and, specifically, participation in the #B329LeadershipChallenge. The EMA encourages you to draw on the different approaches to leadership as practice introduced...
EMA Tutorial Notes
PART A: Participation in social media activities (30% worth)
1. Look back are all the tweets/forum posts you’ve made throughout B329, then select
which you think are your TEN most important tweets for your learning and
professional practice and put them in a table in an appendix AT THE END of your
EMA. (15 marks)
10 marks will be allocated by your tutor on the basis of your weekly engagement as well as
for your contribution to TGF discussions. The last 5 marks will be allocated for producing a
table reporting ten posts of yours that you think are particularly important and inspiring for
your learning and/or professional practice.
(This appendix will not be considered in the overall word count.)
2. Write a paragraph of no more than 500 words which:
- reflects on your experience of writing about and engaging with leadership issues
on Twitter and/or in the Tutor Group Forum
- identifies one opportunity or positive aspect of practising leadership using social
networks
- identifies one threat of negative aspect of practising leadership using social
networks
You need to use critical thinking and reflect on your experience of writing about and
discussing leadership issues in online interactive environments (forums.) This is a personal
reflection with no right or wrong answers, but to gain 15 marks your answer should show
your ability to apply critical-thinking skills and identify one opportunity and one threat of
practising leadership in open environments.
PART B: Reflection on the B329 Leadership Challenge (30% worth)
Prepare an 800-word reflection on your participation in the Leadership Challenge. This
reflection should use critical thinking. You should write about the following:
1. Your chosen leadership challenge in response to the challenge and why you chose it.
2. The process behind the development of the call to action, clarifying if your worked on
your own or in a group of students, and why you chose this approach.
3. Your call to action and the response it attracted.
4. What you would be differently and why?
5. Put you call of action in an appendix at the end of your EMA.
This activity is similar to leadership storytelling and you should seek to tell and convincing
story of what happened and what might be learned from that.
You need to articulate and reflect on your experience in a clear, concise and compelling way.
The key to achieving this is to step back from your involvement in the Leadership Challenge
