NSG 6430 NSG6430 week 7 discussion
This week, complete the Aquifer case titled Family Medicine 20: 28-year-old female with abdominal pain. After completing your Aquifer Case Study, answer the following questions using the latest evidenced based guidelines: Discuss the questions that would be important to include when interviewing a patient with this issue. In the clinical scenario the patient presented with lower abdominal pain having a duration of a few weeks, making the chief complaint acute in the presentation. There are two types of abdominal pain, acute and chronic with each one having differential diagnosis specific to the duration of pain. Questions therefore should include how long have you had the pain? Inquiring on the exact onset of symptoms and duration can determine how long the patient has had the pain. The onset of pain is important to help determine if it is acute or chronic nature. Another question would be to ask to describe the pain. The pain, its classification of the character such as sharp, stabbing, dull, cramping, aching, or shooting can be and important predictive symptom in the differential diagnosis (Olex-Zarychta, 2020). Questioning what helps the pain or what makes the pain worse can help plan interventions. A temporal pattern assessment can often show a pattern as to when the pain occurs. For example, does the pain occur each month prior to menses and subsides with the onset of the menstrual cycle can help determine etiology of certain pathophysiology. Pain can stem from other different organ systems. Associated symptoms with pain can help narrow down the differential diagnosis as these can be tied with a particular diagnosis.
