Die Zellorganellen funktionieren nur als System. Würde man beispielsweise alle Mitochondrien einer
Zelle entfernen, so bekäme sie keine Energie mehr, mit der die anderen Organellen angetrieben
werden können.
Zellkern
Der wichtigste Bestandteil ist der Zellkern, welcher in vielen Zelltypen nur einmal vorkommt. Er
besteht aus einer Doppelmembran mit kleinen Löchern, sogenannten Kernporen. Im Kernplasma,
welches dem Zellplasma allgemein gleicht, befinden sich die DNA in Form von Chromatinfäden und
der Nukleolus (Kernkörperchen), in dem Ribosomen hergestellt werden. Allgemein lässt sich sagen,
dass der Zellkern alle Lebensfunktionen steuert, weil der das Erbgut speichert.
Chloroplasten
Die Chloroplasten bestehen haben ebenfalls eine Doppelmembran. Die innere Membran
(Thylakoidmembran) hat horizontale Einstülpungen. Im Stroma, also der Grundsubstanz, sind Grana
aufgestapelt, welche wiederum aus mehreren Thylakoiden bestehen. In den Thylakoiden ist der
Großteil des Chlorophylls gespeichert, mit dem die Lichtreaktion der Fotosynthese durchgeführt
wird.
Mitochondrien
Die letzte Zellorganelle mit einer Doppelmembran ist das Mitochondrium. im Gegensatz zu den
Chloroplasten hat die innere Membran vertikale Einstülpungen. Mitochondrien sind die „Kraftwerke“
der Zelle. Bei der biologischen Oxidation (Zellatmung) wird aus Glucose Energie gewonnen und in
dem Molekül ATP gespeichert.
Stoffwechselprozesse
Die Fotosynthese ist die Umkehrreaktion der biologischen Oxidation. Während in den Chloroplasten
aus Wasser und Kohlenstoffdioxid Sauerstoff und Glukose hergestellt werden, reagieren bei der
biologischen Oxidation Glukose und Sauerstoff unter Energiegewinnung zu Wasser und
Kohlenstoffdioxid zurück.

Wasser + Kohlenstoffdioxid → Glukose + Sauerstoff
Biologische Oxidation
Glukose + Sauerstoff → Wasser + Kohlenstoffdioxid
