P1STIs
-An STI is a sexually transmitted infection/disease that is passed through unprotected sexual intercourse with an
infected person such as semen, blood, or other bodily fluids
Some STIs can be cured whilst they are still in their early stages, but some cannot be cured when they have already
spread throughout your whole body but can be treated through antibiotics or vaccinations. Ways in which STIs can
be transmitted include viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
HIV/AIDS
-HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system and weakens it, making a person more exposed to infections
such as flu that does not go away and can last for up to six weeks. HIV does not have a cure yet but can however
be treated by taking antiretroviral medications, to suppress the virus from replicating in the body and this will
allow the immune system to repair itself and prevent further damage. If left untreated HIV can lead to AIDS, which
is even much more deadly and scary, and it takes years to develop and leads to severe long-term clinical
manifestations. Causes of HIV/AIDS include having unprotected sex with an infected person, mother to child
through birth or breast feeding, sharing of needles with an infected person. The best way to prevent HIV/AIDS is to
abstain from sexual intercourse, use of PrEP within 72 hours after being when exposed to the virus or when you
are at risk of catching the virus and not sharing needles and razor blades
Effects of HIV/AIDS on an individual's health
-HIV and AIDS weakens the immune system by destroying CD4 cells, making the body more vulnerable to common
infections. Tuberculosis is an infection that can lead to death and causes difficulties in breathing, chest pains,
coughs that contain blood and fever, lung cancer during the late stage of HIV/AIDS is at risk of taking place due to
weekend lungs from numerous respiratory issues.
-Weight loss is also a result of the virus as the digestive tract will be affected resulting in lack of appetite, oral
thrush is a fungal infection that will cause inflammation to the tough which may result in swelling of the esophagus
therefore making it difficult to eat and swallow.

-A person who is infected with HIV/AIDS may develop memory impairment meaning that they won't be able to
recall certain events of the past or present, this affects a person's intellectual wellbeing affecting their jobs and day
to day tasks as they wouldn’t be able to remember certain stuff.
-Mental health problems are triggered as people living with HIV/AIDS often get depressed a lot, e.g confronting
their families and partners about their health status, as they will feel ashamed, but they do not understand that it
is not end of the world and therefore should seek counseling.
-Sores on mouth and genitals might occur when an individual is infected with the virus and therefore, they might
feel embarrassed and start to socially isolate themselves from their friends and family
-An individual affected by HIV/AIDS will develop weak bones as their immune system is weakened and this leads to
disruption of their physical health, affecting day to day tasks
GONORREHEA
-It is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by an infection called the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium
-it affects the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes in women and the urethra in men. Some symptoms of gonorrhea
include virginal discharge or pain when peeing.The infection can also be passed through the mouth or anus.A

intercourse reduces the risks of catching the infection.
-Gonorrhea can be cured with the right treatment but the medication does not treat some permanent scars caused
by the infection.

you feel weak and tired
-A person infected with the infection tends to get fever and burning sensations when urinating and a green or
yellow discharge is produced

-A person with gonorrhea gets joint pains affecting their physical wellbeing as they cannot do daily tasks and they
cannot lift heavy things.
-Sexual life of individuals with untreated gonorrhea will be undesirable as it will hurt after having it, so this leads to
emotional breakdowns or even failure of relationships there emotionally having an effect of the significant other
-Gonorrhea can also lead to infertility and the woman might not be able to conceive therefore they get stressed
and depressed
-Abdominal pains are common to infected people and one might self-isolate from friends and family as they will be
in pain, therefore their social life will be disturbed.
SYPHILIS
-This is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection that is passed through unprotected sex with an infected person,
the sex can either include anal or oral as well as sharing infected sex toys. Sharing of infected needles also causes
syphilis, pregnant women can pass this infection to their unborn babies.
-Symptoms of syphilis include small painless sores or ulcers around the vigina,penis or anus,white patches in the
mouth, fever and swollen glands in your neck. The early stages of syphilis can be cured through use of the right
antibiotics but however if it is left untreated it can cause brain and heart damage that will stay there even after
treatment
-The best way to prevent catching this bacterial infection is use of a male and female condom, not sharing personal
sex toys.

-Individuals who get infected often experience headaches, hearing problems also occur
-Headaches occur and fevers which normally last for a while
Glands get swollen resulting in difficulties in swallowing and eating food

-As joints become painful or stiff, an individual's physical wellbeing is damaged, they must not carry heavy
objects, and this disturbs day-to-day tasks.
-A pregnant mother with syphilis can have a miscarriage or give birth to a still baby leading to depression
and anxiety
- The sexually life of individuals infected with syphilis is disturbed as they will feel embarrassed to have
sex with sores around their genitals resulting in mental health problems and depression.
-Infected individuals might socially isolate themselves from their family and friends because of the visible
white patches on their mouth which will make them feel embarrassed and not want people to know
about the infection they have got.
