Project Management – An Investigation
Introduction
In this assignment I will be investigating different project management methodologies that
the company may be able to utilise. The ways in which I will demonstrate the methodologies
will be an evaluation of PRINCE2, RAD, Waterfall and Agile.

What is understood by Project?
A project is known as a series of different tasks that should be completed in order to attain
to a particular outcome. The term project refers to” to any temporary endeavour with a definite
beginning and end”. A project can be either managed by one person or hundreds depending on its
complexity. Part of a project relies on a system known as a project scope. This determines and
documents the list of specific project goals and targets required to achieve within a set period of time.

What are IT Projects?
IT Projects are similar in the sense however, they are based within the IT infrastructure, information
systems or computers. IT projects include a various range of tasks which need to be fulfilled such as
web development, software development, mobile app development, network configuration,
software implementation, hardware installation, database management, and IT emergency recovery.

What is Project Management?
Project management refers to the application of certain processes to achieve specific
objectives which aligns with the criteria agreed within the parameters. They are usually
constrained to a finite timescale and budget which is why competent individual is required
to possess a wide range of skills to go ahead with the process.

What is Project Scope?
The phase of project planning known as project scope entails identifying and recording a list
of the precise project objectives, deliverables, tasks, costs, and deadlines. The project scope
must be reported down which is known as the scope statement. This is done to clarify the
boundaries of the project, establishing responsibilities for each team member and
procedures for verifying and approving completed work.

Project Beginning and End
A project, like everything else, has to have a start and a finish just like any other endeavour.
To be able to start a project, you need to have the skills to establish a project plan,
communicate effectively with the other members of your team, and have a crystal clear idea
of the end objective as well as a strategy for how you will get there. In order to fulfil this
responsibility, you will have to go through a life cycle, which will make the procedure as a
whole lot simpler for you.

Project Life cycle:
The project life cycle is usually broken down into 5 phases: initiation, planning, execution,
monitoring and project closure. These phases build the path to take your project to your
desired goal from beginning to end.

The project life cycle provides the project with a reliable structure and system to ensure that
they have the best possible chance of finding success and trusting the process.

1. The Initiation Phase: When beginning a project you will need to identify a business
desire, issue or opportunity to satisfy these tasks at hand. During this process, you’ll
need to figure out an objective for the project and decide if you are well able to
complete it / whether it is feasible to go through with. You will also require to sort out
the project goals, budget, resources, time scale and what is needed from the team. To
determine what is required to accomplish from the project and why will provide a clear
path on what to do.
As this is the beginning it is critical you have a clear goal of knowing what it is you are
required to achieve.

2. Planning Phase: As soon as the project's business case, statement of work, or project
commencement document has been accepted, you enter the planning phase. During
this phase of the project management life cycle, you divide the overall project into
smaller tasks, assemble a team, and create a plan for completing assignments. Create
smaller objectives inside the overall project, ensuring that each is realisable within the
allotted time. Smaller objectives should have a high probability of achievement.
To clarify the planning phase there is steps you may need to take including:
Creating a Project Plan: Determine the timescale that will occur with all the stages of the
project. Analyse what problems you may run into during the process of the project.
Creating Workflow Diagrams: Envision your processes using diagrams and drawings to
make sure it is clear what is going to arise. This is to make sure everyone on the team
understands their role in the project.
Gathering Resources: Assemble your team and fathom whether they are suitable for each
task at hand. Make sure everyone also has the necessary tools required to fulfil their duty
Construct a roadmap displaying all responsibilities to automate your project with maximum
efficiency.

3. Execution Phase: Once you have obtained business permission, created a strategy, and
assembled a team. Now is the time to begin working. The step of execution puts your
strategy into action. In this phase of the project management life cycle, the project
manager is responsible for keeping work on track, organising team members, managing
timeframes, and ensuring that the work is accomplished and completed correspondent
to the plan.
The stages needed to be fulfilled within the execution phase are as follows:
Creating Tasks and Structuring Workflows: Designate specific responsibilities for the
projects to the appropriate members of the team, taking care not to overburden any of the
members on the team.

Informing Members of the Team of their Tasks: Brief the team members of the tasks,
offering any relevant direction on how the tasks should be accomplished, and scheduling
any training referring to the process that is required, if applicable.
Communication: The team members, clients and upper management will need to be
supplied and provided with updates anytime there’s something new.

4. Monitoring and Controlling Phase: You will be required to keep track and maintain
control over the project in accordance with the documentation for its beginning and
planning. Make sure that each member of the team is meeting the time objectives for
the projects they are working on and that the quality of work is to an acceptable
standard.

5. Project Closure Phase: The project closure phase begins after all of the work on the
project has been finished by the team. During the closing phase of the project, you will
hand over any remaining deliverables, free up any project resources, and evaluate the
overall success of the project. Even though the bulk of the project's work has been
completed, that does not mean the job of the project manager is finished. There are still
a number of essential tasks to complete, such as determining what aspects of the
project were successful and which were not.
The stages needed to be fulfilled within project closure phase are as follows:
Investigating Project Performance: The project performance relies on whether the tasks
were completed, whether they were on time and on budget. Figure out if the initial issue
which the project was based upon was solved using a checklist.
Documenting Project Closure: The project must be documented and completed in full,
making sure the job isn’t half done. No loose ends should remain and there should be
reports given to the leading stakeholders.
Budget Dilemma: Account your unused and used budgets and allocate the remaining
leftovers for any future projects.
Staying focused on the job at hand, despite the fact that the work associated with the
project has been accomplished, will position you in a position to take all you've learned and
apply it to the next project you work on.
