2. Grammar : relative clauses P125

1) Defining relative clauses (beperkende bijzin): bevat noodzakelijke aanvullende informatie over
een zelfstandig naamwoord
Bv: the man who lives next door is a doctor. (Who lives next door = defining relative clauses,
Bv: I am looking for an expert who can give a lecture on diversity. (Who can give a lecture on
Bv: the man next door, who is really nice, is a doctor. (Kan je weglaten)
Bv: my car, which I bought 10 years ago, is still very fast. (Kan je weglaten)

In bijzinnen gebruik je relative pronouns (betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden), bv: when, where,
which, who, whose en that.
bezit.

Defining relative clauses To talk about people: who, that
To talk about things: which, that
Non – defining relative clauses To talk about people: who
To talk about things: which
Defining EN non – defining relative clauses To talk about time: when
To talk about place: where
To talk about possession: whose
