AVANCE DE LA ECONOMÍA EN LA CIUDAD DE VILLAVICENCIOLa ciudad de Villavicencio con el paso del tiempo se fue posicionando como una de las ciudades
con más dinamismo en el país, esto gracias a su desarrollo económico en distintos campos como
la agroindustria, ganadería, agricultura, minería, comercio y servicios, de este último han saldo
nuevos campos productivos como el turismo y sus variaciones en el departamento, agroturismo y
ecoturismo, esto dado por los atractivos del Meta en General; los últimos años el este servicio ha
jugado un papel elemental en la economía de la ciudad y se ha visto impulsado por la mejora de la
vía Villavicencio – Bogotá y las adecuaciones que se le han hecho a las fincas para que sirvan
como un destino de viaje.
La capital del actual departamento del Meta, en sus inicios se originó aproximadamente en el siglo
XVI como una comunidad indígena de Guayupes que practicaban la agricultura, apicultura y
comercio entre ellos mismos y otras comunidades indígenas como los muiscas; además de
comercializar con plumas, cueros, coca, miel, cera, totumos, madera, pescado, maíz y algodón, por
lo que decimos que la principal actividad económica era la agricultura y el comercio, que tomarían
una importante relevancia hacia el futuro en la ciudad.
VILLAVICENCIO EN EL SIGLO XIX
Posteriormente en el siglo XVIII se formó un caserío en el cual se asentaban de forma temporal
vaqueros que llevaban su ganado a la capital del país (Bogotá), o viceversa (de Bogotá a
Villavicencio), además se aprovecharon materias primas que había en la región como la quina,
marfil vegetal, café o cacao esto también ayudo a realizar el mercado entre el departamento de
