Task 4 – Report

For this task, we had to set up a business stall in teams. My stall had 4 people in it and
we sold cookies and milkshakes.

The overall effectiveness of my team was quite effective. We all got along and we were
able to come to agreements quickly without any disagreements. We had a clear leader in
our team and he was about to give us recommendations and different roles in order to
do the best we possibly could at the market stall. The purpose of working in this team
was to achieve a goal; which was to raise £50 for charity. Another purpose of working in
this team was to increase productivity and show that we can work well in teams and get
the original goal set out completed.

I personally feel that as a team member I performed very well. I was given the role of
Monitor Evaluator. This meant that I was to make judgments and weigh up the options
available. This would mean that if an idea were to arise about what business we should
have on the stall, I would have to research and come up with the positives and negatives
of the options. I think that I was best suited to this role as I am able to quickly think
about the pros and cons of each option and see if it would be suited to the team. I got
involved with the other team members throughout the whole exercise and I made sure
that every agreed with what was happening.

Team Member 1 was the clear leader in the group as from the beginning he took charge
and told people what we need to achieve at the end of this. He also distributed the work
load evenly which meant that all team members knew what they were supposed to be
doing. I do not think any other team members would have be better suited to the role of
Team Leader and all the team roles just fell into place. Team Member 1 was not
supposed to be in my team to start with, and before that we did not have a clear leader
of the group. This meant that members did not know what they were doing and people
just went off and did what they wanted, without consulting the other team members. By
having Team Member 1 joining the group, he was able to adapt to our group and ensure
that everyone was aware of the goals set out and what we needed to do in order to
achieve this. Following on from this, there are a lot of responsibilities that come with
being a leader. This includes having a fair attitude to all team members and putting any
possible disagreements to the side, having consistency within decision making,
understanding all members and ensuring constantly that every member knows what they
are doing and understand the goals originally set out. By taking on all these
responsibilities can mean that team morale is high and the original goal set out is more
likely to be achieved as the team is structured and comfortable with each other. Linking
it to the responsibilities that come with a team leader, Team Member 1 encouraged
other team members to speak up when asking group input and asked for their opinion.
This meant that the whole team felt comfortable with any possible disagreements they
had with ideas and they were able to mention ideas that may improve upon this.
