Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business – Evaluation of
the use of social media in business
Introduction
In this assignment, I will investigate and discuss how Barnet Southgate College
may effectively utilise social media platforms to their benefit by first identifying
the college's goal while utilising social media.
Learning aim B
About the business
I have decided to team up with the BSC Consultancy of Barnet Southgate College
to help successfully create a social media platform located at Wood Street, High
Barnet, EN5 4AZ. In recent years, the method of spreading information about
your school to students and the general public has evolved, with the ability to
check e-newsletters and other information online from your mobile device. The
BSC Consultancy has asked me to help educate them on how to run and manage
social media platforms, with additional advice on how to deliver purposeful news
and information to members of Barnet Southgate College.
Business aims
Barnet Southgate College – Wood Street is home to students studying many
courses, doing A-level or BTEC, and re-doing maths/ English GCSE. The business
aims were discussed with BSC Consultancy on 7/2/2022 with communication
being over a formal email (See appendix A1) where I showed one of the
members, Miss Samani, the plan surrounding what is required from the
business’s social media (See appendix A2) in addition, minute notes were used
to record all of the implementations that needed to be done (See appendix A3).
The business may utilise social media to assist in marketing and advertising the
college to the general public. They might begin by creating accounts on popular
social media platforms that their target audience uses to communicate with
them. This will allow them to tailor their posts and content to the specific
audience that they want to view. This would generally be for people between the
ages of 16 and 19, as well as their parents/careers, as they are the major people
to whom the college would cater its contents, also known as their target
audience.
Using social media to boost your business may benefit you in a variety of ways.
The college's reputation and profile are greatly influenced by how they appear,
as many people will form opinions about the college based on what they see on
social media. For example, posting a lot of pictures and videos of their students
having fun doing extracurricular activities will give the impression that not only
does the college help students improve their fitness, but it can also be seen as a
way students can have fun.
The college's main goal would be to be able to deliver material and information
to the general public, as well as its target audience. This would require them to
research and learn how to monitor their social media accounts, as well as
develop strategies to appeal to them. The first stage is for the college to figure
out what kinds of things to post in order to attract the interest and attention of
their target audience.

Assignment 2

The business could help improve their chances by giving forms out online to
current students asking them certain questions to help give them a better insight
into what they should do for their online platforms. Questions they could ask are:
What made you want to come to Barnet Southgate College?
How did you find out about Barnet Southgate College?
What type of news do you want to see about the College?
Do you know where to find information about the college?
The social media planning process
The main requirement of the business would be to recruit new students for the
college and assign them to the appropriate course in which they may accomplish
and prosper. Other duties include providing information to their pupils, raising
business awareness, and attracting more young people. The college intends to
use social media only for purpose of advertising and selling itself in the hopes of
attracting new students. The BSC Consultancy team would need to be consulted
on these issues.
For their target audience, the college would need to upload information such as
e-newsletters, virtual events, events, success stories, student experiences, term
dates, and much more. These can be done inside the company's facilities; for
example, e-newsletters can be created on word documents or pdf files and then
formatted to make them more engaging and visually attractive; the same can be
said for virtual events notices. With term dates, the college will be able to post
posters that display all half-term and holiday breaks in a variety of ways, such as
near half-term, post the dates the college is closed, similarly with holidays break,
or at the beginning of the year, post a full timetable of half-term/holiday break
dates and durations Success stories and student experiences may be shared in
video or image format, which receives more likes than an educational descriptive
paper since it is more engaging and captures the attention of their target
audience.
When deciding which platforms to use, the
company should consider which platform has the
most active users between the ages of 15 and 20.
The most popular social platform among people
aged 15 to 25 in the United Kingdom is seen in the
graph below. The goal would be to publish 2 to 3
times each week, with additional postings for
special events or extras such as significant days in
the year (Black History Month, Women's
International Day, etc.) or other vital information
that the public needs to know (virtual events,
special opportunities etc.). We expect that by
doing so, we would be able to attract
more young individuals to our platform,
allowing us to reach our initial end
requirements.
When it comes to growing the company's online community of followers, we'll
have to maintain and verify the statistics of who's connecting with our social
media accounts, as well as improve our management to guarantee we're
reaching all of our target demographics. We would need to use modern-day

technology and techniques to aid in the success of business social media during
this process. For example, knowing as much as possible about the online traffic
of each social platform can help us choose when to post our content at the
optimal time when the majority of active people are accessing the
website/platform. Another example is the website tracker, which would allow us
to see who is looking at and interacting with our social media pages, as well as
how long they remain on them. These two technologies would be extremely
beneficial to us since they would allow us to target certain audiences and
determine the best time to post. I feel that once we have a better understanding
of our followers, we can take it a step further and begin connecting with them in
order to keep them interested. We plan to use the majority of
Instagram functions, such as posts, highlights, and so on. (See Appendix B1).
With the business implementing social media policies, it is critical that we give
online safety policies for the public to see; since the college is accountable for a
large number of students whose safety must be guaranteed to the utmost extent
possible. Images of the company's Policy Statement and Policy Aims can be seen
below:

We hope that all students and staff comply with the policy, and if not, then
disciplinary must be done to ensure their safety and others around them.
