Purpose: To understand the concept of momentum and conservation of momentum through calculations of
both velocity and momentum.
Hypothesis: If we compare the total momentum of the purple carts and green carts before and after
inelastic/elastic collision, then the total momentum would be the same before and after. According to Newton's
Third Law of Motion, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In the same way, two bodies have
momentum. Upon a collision, the changes in momentum will always be equal and opposite. One body's
momentum increases, so the other body's momentum decreases. Therefore, there is a conservation of
momentum.
