Genetic engineering
Genetic engineering is defined as a deliberate modification of
characteristics of different organisms by manipulating their genetic
material. It is also known as genetic modification. Genetic
engineering is usually a set of technologies that are used to produce
and change or transform different types of cells across different
species. Genetic engineering is also involved in the production of
cancer therapies, bringing yeasts, genetically modified plants,
livestock, and many more.
Extracting DNA from samples:
DNA is a long-chain molecule that is present in all living things. It
gives instructions to the souls in the body on what to do. It is
responsible to determine the color of the eyes and hair. There is a
simple experiment to extract and visualize the DNA from Kiwi fruit,
which is as follows,
Equipment list:
Two kiwis
Pineapple juice
Table salt
Washing liquid
Glass beakers
Cold alcohol
Sieve
Bowl
Kitchen roll
Knife
Fork
Stirring rod
, Method:
A method for preparing the extracting DNA from samples of fruit is as
follows,
80ml of water is measured in a beaker.
A half teaspoon of salt is then added to the water.
Then two teaspoons of washing liquid are also added to that
water.
It is then stirred until all the salt and washing liquid is dissolved
in the water. It should be stirred carefully so that it doesn’t
make bubbles in the solution.
Then kiwi is peeled off and is being mashed.
Kiwi is then transferred to the other beaker and is mashed with
the use of a fork.
Then the water solution is added to the mashed kiwi.
The solution is then left for 20 min at room temperature.
After that, a clean bowl is covered by a sieve which is lined with
a few sheets of damp kitchen roll.
Then the green mush is added to deceive carefully so that the
kitchen roll does not break down. A fork is used to gently push
the mixture through the sieve.
Then the pulp and the seeds are separated from the marsh and
a green liquid he's present in the bowl.
Then this solution is transferred to a measuring cylinder.
After that pineapple juice is added to the green liquid. About
one ML of pineapple juice is added to the 5 ML of greenish DNA
solution.
Then the solution is left for five minutes at room temperature
The alcohol is removed from the freezer and poured down the
side of the glass.
Equal volumes of DNA solution to the alcohol are needed.
