,Introduction
Logistics = the movement of goods
Supply chain = network of activities to deliver finished products to customers:
• the suppliers provide raw materials and components
• the manufacturer transforms these materials into finished products
• the products are distributed to retailers via distribution centers and/or wholesalers
• the retailer sells the finished products to the end customer
Multimodel transport: using multiple/different modes of transport - different information and
different infrastructure

• First tier supplier: supplier of raw materials
• Materials arrive at the inbound of a warehouse
• Two types of actors
o wholesaler (distributing products- finished products- to stores without preference
for a brand)
o distributer (distributes/promotes a particular brand to stores/retailers)
• Also supply chains without physical stores bv. e-commerce
• External companies take care of transport and warehouse
• Communication is extremely important: e.g. promotion - information about where the
goods are, how much stock and how much transfer is crucial
Different actors in the supply chain
